Oshae Haye and Jodi Munn-Barrow copped the top spots at last weekend’s Constant Spring Golf Classic held at the Constant Spring Golf Course in St. Andrew.
Haye competed in the WAGR (World Amateur Golf Ranking) section where the golfers complete three rounds or 54 holes in two days.
Golfers who compete in that section stand to gain WAGR points which allow them to play in tournaments across the region and the world.
Haye was the only golfer to post an under-par score which he did in the third round. He posted two under par 68 and five over par 75 each in of the first two rounds for a total score of eight over par 218.
His scorecard showed one birdie each in the first two rounds but had a very good third round which included four birdies.
He was three under par after 14 holes but bogeyed the next hole to close the round at two under par 68.
William Knibbs, who has not played in a local tournament for a couple of years, was just one stroke behind Haye in second place after ending on 219.
Knibbs posted the next best single round score of par 70 in his first round. His other two rounds were three over par 73 and six over par 76.
The normally reliable Zandre Roye had a decent first round of five over par 75 but a disastrous second round of 14 over par 84.
His final round of one over par 73 contributed to his overall score of 22 over par 232 to be joint third with Dr. Mark Newnham who had scores of 74, 78, 80.
Pro golfer Sebert Walker Jr was the only pro to finish that section of the Classic after posting scored of 77, 77, 76.
Munn-Barrow, president of the Jamaica Golf Association and perennial winner of local golf tournaments was again in the winners’ circle in the 0-12 section.
She scored eight over par 78 and three over par 73 for a total score of 13 over par 153 to carry the banner for the ladies.
"The Constant Spring Classic is the last qualifier for the JGA calendar which allows players points for national representation. (I am) very pleased with the level of play that we saw. The course was playing tough and Oshae came back and played very well on Sunday and was victorious” said Munn-Barrow.
Yvonne Brown took the 13-24 section after scoring 213 for her two rounds.
Vikram Dhiman was the number one player in the Men & Men Senior 0-6. His combined score was 173.
The Men & Men Senior 7-12 went to Arshad Ali` who posted scores of 72 and 81 for a total score of 13 over par 153 while Bruce Levy (172) and Cedric Blair (177) were second and third respectively.
Jordan Wong 163 and Andrew Spencer 186 were first and second in the Men & Men Senior 13-24 section.
Mike Gliechman 164 topped the Men Super Senior 0-12 section while Guan Arscott 193 took the Men Super Senior 13-24 section, and Philip Wilson 174 bagged the Masters category.
