Mixed Martial Arts fighter Matthew ‘Gold Lion’ Colquhoun is scheduled to take on Mark Martin on December 4, in Kansas, in a fight to be televised globally.

The Jamaican fighter, a three-time Pan American champion will get into the ring for the first time in more than a year but has expressed confidence that he will be ready to notch another victory on his belt.

“I have been preparing for different fights since December of last year, which all of them got canceled due to COVID-19. But I was advised by my coach to stay ready for any opportunity that comes by which I did,” Colquhoun told Sportsmax.TV, highlighting that he is not worried about ring rust.

“No such thing. I have spent more than half my life training and fighting I am always ready.”

His primary concern is his inability to fund his trip to Kansas City and certain elements of his preparation, like nutrition. He is appealing for corporate support, saying he only needs about US$700. In exchange, he is offering to wear the logos of his potential sponsors on his fighting shorts that will be seen across the globe.

That aside, he said his preparation has been going according to plan notwithstanding the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I’ve been training with a small group of fighters like Kyle Chin, Bruce Chin, Imran Hall and Steve Heaven for the last two months, all very talented fighters,” he said.

“I leave to California next weekend to finish the training camp at Dragon House MMA.”

Martin, a wrestler, boasts a 5-1 record and Colquhoun intends to make that record 5-2.
