VJ Edgecombe scored a team-high 19 points to help the Baylor Bears defeat the Utah Utes 81-56 in their NCAA Division 1 Basketball action at Baylor’s Foster Pavilion on New Year’s Eve.

In 25 minutes of action, the Bahamian freshman hit six of his 10 field goal attempts including two three pointers to help the Bears defeat the Utes by 25 points in their Big 12 Conference opener.

Duke transfer guard Jeremy Roach and forward Norchad Omier both had 15 points in support, with Omier also recording 14 rebounds and three blocks.

Hunter Erickson led the Utes in scoring with 13 points off the bench.

The 25th ranked Bears are now 9-3 and 1-0 in Big 12 Conference play and will next take on Iowa State, currently ranked third in the nation, on January 4.
