Bahamian freshman VJ Edgecombe scored a season-high 30 points to lead the Baylor Bears to a 70-62 home win over the Kansas State Wildcats on Wednesday night.

The projected top-10 pick in this year’s NBA draft shot 8/13 from the field, 3/7 from three-point range and 11/12 from the free throw line to help the secure their 12th win of the season against six losses.

The Bears were down 30-26 at the half and that lead quickly swelled to 12 less than four minutes into the second half before a spirited run, led by Edgecombe, put the Bears back into the drivers’ seat.

20 of the Bahamian’s 30 points came in the second half which Baylor won 44-32 to subject the Wildcats to a 7-11 record and a 1-6 record in Big 12 Conference play.

Jalen Celestine was the only other Baylor player in double figures, scoring 18 points including 15 in the second half.

Norchad Omier was dominant on the boards with 13 rebounds to lead both teams.

Baylor, who are now 4-3 in Big 12 Conference play themselves, shot 25% in the first half but 60% in the second, making 5 of 8 3s and 15 of 19 free throws with just one turnover.

Baylor will next take on Utah on Saturday. They should go into that game with confidence knowing that the Utes are coming off a brutal 36-70 loss to Houston.
