Former Reggae Boy and Waterhouse midfielder, Irvino English, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Waterhouse on Wednesday night.

He was 42.

Reports said the football coach at Wolmer’s Boys High School in Kingston, was shot multiple times along Henley Road in the impoverished Waterhouse community shortly after 10 pm.

He died in hospital while undergoing treatment.

His death has sent shock waves through the Waterhouse community that is currently under a state of emergency because of recent violent flare-ups.

A long-time fan of the Liverpool Football Club in the English Premier League, English developed a reputation as a talented player while representing Wolmer’s Boys and Norman Manley High School while playing in the ISSA Manning Cup Competition.

He was a key player for Norman Manley High School when they won the Manning Cup competition in 1996.

He would go on to play five international matches for the Reggae Boyz. In a FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Costa Rica in 2002, English came on as a substitute in a 1-0 loss.

He also made 21 appearances for Waterhouse in the Red Stripe Premier League scoring three goals.

His son Rivaldo also represented Wolmer’s in the Manning Cup competition.
