Jamaica’s young Reggae Girlz wasted no time making their mark on the Concacaf Under-20 Women’s Championship qualifiers, as they registered a dominant 7-0 victory over St Vincent and the Grenadines in a lopsided Group D contest in Managua, Nicaragua, on Thursday.

With only the group winner advancing to the next round, the Leacroft Lettman-coached side flexed their attacking prowess early, dismantling their Caribbean counterparts with an onslaught of goals led by a hat-trick from Alyssa Stephenson (15th, 45+3, 60th).

Avery Johnson (25th), Maya Raghunandanan (28th), captain Jaileah Cox McPherson (42nd), and Andrene Smith (45th) also got on the scoresheet as Jamaica cruised to an emphatic win, setting an early marker for their qualification ambitions.

The Reggae Girlz controlled proceedings from the opening whistle, dictating the tempo and rarely allowing St Vincent and the Grenadines a look at goal. In fact, the Vincentians mustered only three shots throughout the encounter—none of which seriously threatened the Jamaican defence.

After a cagey start, Jamaica broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, when Stephenson pounced on a loose ball and rifled home and opened the floodgates.

Johnson added a second when she skipped past a defender and powered a right-footed strike into the net.

Three minutes later, Raghunandanan showed great composure to turn her marker and fire home from just outside the 18-yard box. Vincentian goalkeeper G-riesa Joseph got a hand to it but failed to keep it out.

With the opponents offering very little resistance, Cox McPherson made it 4-0 with a beautifully struck free kick from the top of the 18-yard box over a five-player wall and into the back of the net.

Minutes later, Andrene Smith capitalized on a loose ball in the box and slotted home to further extend the advantage.

Stephenson then completed her first-half brace as she pounced on a defensive mistake, slipped past her marker, and calmly finished past a hapless Joseph to put Jamaica 6-0 up at the break.

With the game firmly in their grasp, Lettman made adjustments at the break, bringing in Zoey Ziadie for Destiny Powell and Sajane Anderson in goal for London Phoenix to give them valuable minutes.

Despite a slight drop in intensity, Jamaica remained in complete control and continued creating chances, most of which fell to Raghunandanan, who lacked composure in the final third.

However, Stephenson completed her hat-trick at the hour mark as she got on the end of a pass inside the area and dismissed a lone defender to make space for a right-footer past Joseph.

The Young Reggae Girlz could have won by an even wider margin had they converted more of their opportunities, with substitute Tiny Seaton and Lue both going close in the final minutes.

Nonetheless, the clinical performance sends a strong message to their Group D rivals—St Kitts and Nevis, who they face on Saturday and host Nicaragua—as they continue their push for Championship qualification.
