
Defending champions Barbados got their second win in as many games in the West Indies Rising Stars Under-15 Tournament with a comfortable 170-run win over the Leeward Islands at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Thursday.
Barbados Under-15s posted the highest score of the tournament, so far, with 275 all out in 49.5 overs after being put in to bat by the Leewards.
Kelani Clarke led the way with a 90-ball 86 including eight fours and a six while captain Justin Parris and wicket-keeper Seth Smith also got half centuries with 72 off 87 balls and 55 off 41 balls, respectively.
William Pitman had an excellent day with the ball for the Leewards despite Barbados’ batting dominance with 6-41 from his 9.5 overs.
The Leewards were then bundled out for 105 in 37.1 overs with only Clayvauntae Powell reaching double figures with 64 off 85 balls.
Parris completed an excellent all-round day with 4-13 from 7.1 overs while Liam Sealy and Jahidi Hinds took 3-21 from seven overs and 2-17 from seven overs, respectively.
Elsewhere, Jamaica rebounded from a crushing defeat at the hands of Barbados in round one to dish out their own crushing defeat by handing Guyana an eight-wicket loss for their first win of the season at the Antigua Recreation Ground (ARG).
The Jamaicans, after winning the toss and electing to bowl first, restricted Guyana to just 104 all out in 28.1 overs.
Andrew Lloyd was the pick of the Jamaican bowlers with 4-14 from his 9.1 overs of off spin while pacers Eckoney Robinson and Dondre Peters picked up two wickets apiece.
Jayden Shaw and Tesfah Ward then made 38 and 25, respectively as Jamaica got to 106-3 in 29 overs to seal victory.
The day’s other game saw Trinidad & Tobago defeat the Windward Islands by seven wickets at the Liberta Sports Club.
Rylee Gangoo and Samuel Stewart combined for six wickets as the Trinidadians bowled the Windwards out for 123 after winning the toss.
Jorden Charles led the way with the bat with 55 against Gangoo’s 3-9 off 2.1 overs and Stewart’s 3-38 off 10 overs.
T&T then needed just 23.1 overs to reach 124-3 thanks to 36* from Zion Phillip.
In round three on Saturday, Barbados will take on Trinidad & Tobago at Coolidge, the Leewards will take on Jamaica at Liberta Sports Club and Guyana will take on the Windwards at the ARG.
