Arcahaie FC of Haiti are through to the semifinals of the 2020 Flow Concacaf Caribbean Club Championship after earning a 1-0 win over Jamaica’s Portmore United on Sunday night at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in Kingston, Jamaica.
With the result, Arcahaie finish Group B in second place with three points and will join Atletico Pantoja of the Dominican Republic in the next round.
It was a hard-fought first half, with both defences in good form and the only real scoring chance coming in the 35th minute when an Arcahaie shot flashed wide.
Portmore took a much more aggressive approach to start the second half and it almost yielded a goal when a dangerous free kick from Ricardo Morris looked goal-bound, but goalkeeper Guerry Romondt had other ideas and soared to his left to keep it scoreless.
The Arcahaie defence was then called on to make another big clearance in the 78th on a dangerous ball across.
The Haitians took advantage in the 85th minute when a free kick from Clifford Thomas took a deflection off the Portmore United wall, and it fell to Marc Beldor, who finished to give Arcahaie the 1-0 triumph.
