Just hours after Everton sacked Sean Dyche, Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman guided the Toffees to victory in the FA Cup third round.

Everton began life after Sean Dyche with a 2-0 victory over Peterborough United to book their place in the FA Cup fourth round.

The Toffees parted company with Dyche earlier on Thursday after just under two years in charge at Goodison Park. The former Burnley boss had paid the price following a run of just one win in 10 matches.

Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman were placed in temporary charge for the visit of League One side Peterborough, and they guided the Toffees to a comfortable triumph.

Everton broke the deadlock three minutes before half-time, as Beto latched onto Harrison Armstrong's throughball before rounding visiting goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic to finish.

Iliman Ndiaye sealed the victory from the penalty spot in second-half stoppage time, making no mistake after Jadel Katongo had fouled Jarrad Branthwaite in the box.

Everton have won their last 10 FA Cup home games against sides from a lower division, keeping seven clean sheets in that time.

They will be joined in the fourth-round draw by fellow Premier League side Fulham, who eased to a 4-1 win over Championship side Watford at Craven Cottage.

The sides went in level at half-time, after Rocco Vata's magnificent 30-yard strike cancelled out Rodrigo Muniz's opener just six minutes earlier.

However, the hosts took control after the break. Raul Jimenez continued his rich vein of form with a penalty after Adama Traore had been fouled in the box by Antonio Tikvic.

Joachim Andersen put the Cottagers further in front just after the hour mark before Timothy Castagne rounded off the scoring to see Marco Silva's side safely through.

Fulham scored four goals in an FA Cup match for the first time since January 2017, and will be hoping to improve on their quarter-final run in the competition two seasons ago.

Meanwhile, struggling Cardiff City edged out promotion hopefuls Sheffield United 1-0 in the all-Championship battle at Bramall Lane.

Cian Ashford scored the only goal after just 19 minutes at Bramall Lane, where the Bluebirds upset the form book by denying their promotion-chasing opponents.

At 20 years and 107 days, Ashford became the youngest player to score for Cardiff in the FA Cup since Rubin Colwill against Liverpool in February 2022 (19y 285d).
