Odean Smith was the chief destroyer as the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force gained the early ascendancy on the first day of their second-round regional-four day match against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes at Tarouba on Thursday.
Batting first, Hurricanes were dismissed for 185 from just 58.4 overs.
Smith returned figures of 4 for 50 from 12 overs and Akeal Hosein 2 for 32 who met little resistance from the Leewards batting.
Had it not been for a battling half-century from Jahmar Hamilton who scored 55 and Alzarri Joseph who propped up the lower order with an unbeaten 35, things would have been much worse. A fourth-wicket partnership of 51 between Hamilton and Kacey Carty (27) and fifth-wicket stand of 45 between Hamilton and Amir Jangoo (17) helped the Hurricanes save face.
At the close, the Red Force were 74 for 1 with Darren Bravo unbeaten on 36 and Keegan Simmons at the other end on 32.
