Grenada, St. Vincent & the Grenadines secure wins to open 2025 WICB Senior Women’s Tournament in Grenada

St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Grenada kicked off the 2025 Windward Islands Cricket Board (WICB) Women’s Senior Tournament with tense wins over Dominica and St. Lucia, respectively, in Grenada on Sunday. In the day’s opening game, St. Vincent & the Grenadines defeated Dominica by two wickets at Benjamin’s Park in a game reduced to 20 overs.

Dominica batted first, posting 93-6 with Earsinha Fontaine leading the way with 31 and Amiah Gilbert adding 27 in support.

Shenezia Daniel was the best bowler on the day for the Dominicans with 2-15 from three overs while Jannilea Glasgow took 1-8 from her four overs.

St. Vincent then reached 94-8 with only two balls to spare to secure victory thanks to 18 from Hazelann Foster and 14 from Tracy Byron.

Abini St. Jean and Aidith Gasper took two wickets, each, for Dominica who fought valiantly but fell short in the end.

In the day’s second game, Grenada secured a four-wicket win over defending champions St. Lucia at Geneva Field.

St. Lucia were first bowled out for 65 in just 22.5 overs. Nerissa Crafton top scored with just nine as Carena Noel (4-15 from 6.5 overs) and Afy Fletcher (2-9 from 5 overs) combined to do the most damage.

Fletcher and Noel then combined to score 15 and 13, respectively, to lead the Grenadians to 66-6 in 22 overs to seal victory.

Niesha Cherry took 4-25 from nine overs while Zaida James took 1-12 from three overs for St. Lucia.

Action continues on Monday with Dominica and Grenada squaring off at Benjamin’s Park before St. Lucia battles St. Vincent at Geneva Field.
