Half-centuries from Kyshona Knight and Aaliyah Alleyne guided Barbados Pride Women to a hard-fought 11-run victory over Guyana Women in their opening match of the CG United Insurance Super50 Cup at the Conaree Sports Club on Monday.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Barbados posted a competitive 183-5 in 50 overs. Knight anchored the innings with a patient 54 off 122 balls, providing stability after early setbacks. Alleyne then delivered a crucial late-innings flourish, smashing 57 not out off 55 balls, including five fours and a six, to push Barbados to a defendable total. Trishan Holder (27 off 62) and Naijanni Cumberbatch (21 off 27) also contributed valuable runs. Sheneta Grimmond (2-17 in 10 overs) and Ashmini Munisar (1-34 in 9 overs) led the bowling effort for Guyana.
In response, Guyana fell just short, getting bowled out for 172 in 47.4 overs. Despite 26-run contributions from Mandy Mangru, Shabika Gajnabi, and Cherry-Ann Fraser, they struggled to keep up with the required run rate. Keila Elliott (3-38 in 10 overs) and Erin Deane (3-33 in 10 overs) spearheaded the Barbados bowling attack, while Alleyne (2-21 in 9.4 overs) played a key role in closing out the match.
