The Pocket Rocket Foundation has announced a new partnership with the Youth Football League, pledging an academic scholarship to the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2025 Champions Cup Football Tournament.

Valued at JMD$100,000 per year, the scholarship will be awarded annually to the MVP starting in Grade 8 and continuing through to high school graduation—provided the recipient meets the academic and behavioural standards required for renewal.

“We are proud to support this initiative by the Youth Football League. Our foundation has always been committed to developing well-rounded student-athletes, and this partnership gives us another opportunity to invest in the future of young talent,” said Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, founder of the Pocket Rocket Foundation.

To remain eligible, the recipient must maintain a minimum 60 per cent average, actively represent their school in a sporting discipline, and demonstrate good conduct. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the school’s bursary at the start of each academic year. The official award will be presented at the Pocket Rocket Foundation’s annual Handover Ceremony in the year the student enters Grade 8.

For Paula Pinnock, Managing Director of the Youth Football League, the partnership is especially meaningful. “This partnership between the Youth Football League and the Pocket Rocket Foundation is monumental—not just for the game, but for the lives it will change. It proves that sports can open doors to education and opportunity through discipline, teamwork, and passion. These young players aren’t just chasing goals on the field—they’re chasing scholarships, futures, and the chance to rewrite their own stories.”

The 2025 Champions Cup will take place on June 21, bringing together top youth footballers from across the island. The MVP will be selected based on performance throughout the tournament, with academic eligibility confirmed at the end of the school year.

This initiative reinforces both organisations’ shared mission: empowering Jamaican youth through opportunity, structure, and support.
