West Indies all-rounder Kyle Mayers played an important hand as Fortune Barishal defeated the Chittagong Kings by three-wickets in the final of the 2025 Bangladesh Premier League at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.
Batting at number four, Mayers hit a 28-ball 46 in support of captain Tamim Iqbal’s 54 off 29 balls to help Barishal successfully chase down a target of 195 to retain their title.
Iqbal’s opening partner Towhid Hridoy also batted well for his 32 as the champions reached 195-7 with three balls to spare.
Left-arm quick Shoriful Islam tried his best with the ball for the Kings with 4-34 from his four overs while Naeem Islam took 2-18 from two overs in support with his off-spin.
Earlier, it looked like the wrong decision was made to field first after Iqbal won the toss and inserted the Kings.
Openers Khawaja Nafay and Parvez Hossain Emon put on 121 for the first wicket in just 12.4 overs before Nafay fell for a 44-ball 66 including seven fours and three sixes.
Emon was then joined by Graham Clark and the pair added 70 for the second wicket before Clark fell for 44 in the last over.
They eventually made 194-3 with Emon finishing 78* off 49 balls including six fours and four sixes.
