Calabar High School lit up Franklin Field with a clinical and commanding display to win their ninth High School Boys’ Championship of America 4x100m relay title on Friday’s second day of the 129th Penn Relays Carnival, tying the all-time record for most wins in the event.
The Red Hills Road-based team — featuring Jamal Stephenson, Shaquane Gordon, Dijon Swaine, and Khamani Gordon — executed smooth baton passes and powered to victory in 39.79 seconds, a time that firmly cemented their place in Penn Relays history.
Calabar’s victory continues Jamaica’s dominance in the event and puts them in elite company, tying them with Camperdown as the Jamaican teams with the most 4x100m titles in the prestigious relay carnival's storied history. Boys & Girls High in New York and Mercersburg Academy out of Pennsylvania also have nine titles.
Archbishop John Carroll of Washington, DC, briefly disrupted the Jamaican sweep by snatching second in 40.04s, while Kingston College finished third in 40.16s.
Excelsior High also put in a strong showing to clock 40.36s for fourth, ahead of Edwin Allen (41.01s), Jamaica College (41.04s), St Elizabeth Technical (41.06s), William Knibb Memorial (41.10s), and Blue Mountain of Pennsylvania (41.78s), who rounded out the finalists.
Meanwhile, St George's College won the High School Boys International final in a new record of 40.64s. The team of Raheem Collins, Tyreece Foreman, Nathaneil Abraham, Naethan Bryan erased Excelsior's previous mark of 41.04s set in 2023. St Augustine's of Bahamas and Herbert Morrison from Western Jamaica copped silver and bronze as both crossed in 41.19s.
