Bahamas track star Devynne Charlton, the reigning World Indoor 60m hurdles champion and world record holder, has announced the launch of the Devynne Charlton Barrier Breakers Foundation. Charlton shared the news on Instagram on Thursday, December 19, 2024, marking a significant step in her efforts to give back to her community and inspire the next generation of athletes.
The foundation aims to support young student-athletes in The Bahamas by providing resources, mentorship, and financial aid to help them excel both academically and athletically.
“I’m excited to announce the launch of the Devynne Charlton Barrier Breakers Foundation! The foundation is dedicated to providing young student-athletes in The Bahamas with the resources, mentorship, and financial support they need to excel in all their academic and athletic pursuits,” Charlton wrote in her post.
The foundation will address challenges faced by underprivileged athletes, fostering a culture of academic excellence, sportsmanship, leadership, and community development.
“We’re developing programs to assist financially in areas such as scholarships, grassroots development, college preparation and transition, mental health and well-being, coach training and development, and social outreach,” Charlton explained.
Charlton’s announcement caps an extraordinary year in which she broke the world record for the 60m hurdles twice and competed in the 100m hurdles final at the Paris Olympics, finishing sixth. Her achievements on the track have made her a household name in The Bahamas and a role model for young athletes across the Caribbean.
The foundation is seeking partnerships with corporate Bahamas and individuals willing to contribute financially or volunteer their time.
