Bermuda’s Conor White won his country’s first medal at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, when he claimed the bronze medal in the Men’s Individual Time Trial on Sunday.
White recorded a final time of 48:13.96 in the event that was won by Colombia’s Walter Vargas in 47:02.72. Ecuador’s Richard Carapaz won the silver medal clocking a time of 47:36.02.
It was the Ecuadorian who led early having completed the first lap in 23:43.91 with the Colombian not far behind in 23:46.35. White, meanwhile, completed the opening lap in 24:19.87 in third.
Vargas proved to be stronger on the final lap overtaking Carapaz and opening a significant gap while completing the final lap in an impressive 23:16.37, well clear of his Ecuadorian rival who faded to complete the lap in 23:52.11.
White also improved his time on the final lap which he completed in 23:54.09 to hold onto to third place and a spot on the podium.
