Jamaican-American sprint sensation Skylar Franklin has been named among four high school athletes signed to Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) contracts by sportswear giant Brooks, marking a significant step in the company's expansion into high school athletics.
Franklin, the reigning Brooks PR champion in the 400m, has already established herself as one of the most dominant young sprinters in the United States. The Florida native holds the fastest returning girls' 400m time in the country at 51.01 seconds, making her a formidable contender for titles in 2025. In addition to her prowess in the quarter-mile, Franklin is also sharpening her speed in the 200m, where she ranks among the nation’s best. She has committed to attending Louisiana State University (LSU) in the fall of 2025, a program known for producing world-class sprinters.
Brooks Sports Marketing Manager for Track, Derek Lactaoen, highlighted the company's evolving approach to NIL deals, emphasizing their commitment to supporting athletes beyond their performances.
"NIL is an incredibly dynamic space right now, and we see the opportunity with it evolving almost daily," Lactaoen said, as reported by FloTrack. "At Brooks, we know that athletes have always been more than their performances, each with their own unique story to share with the world."
Brooks has been steadily expanding its footprint in track and field, already supporting college athletes through NIL partnerships. Now, by signing Franklin and three other high school stars, the company is making its first foray into high school NIL deals, reinforcing its commitment to the sport.
"At the collegiate level, we've seen cultural appetite continue to increase for more stories like those of the NIL athletes we work with, so we'll continue to expand there," Lactaoen continued. "And now, we're seeing that excitement and buzz extend into the high school ranks. We're excited to officially enter the space with this amazing group of young athletes and continue to grow our investment into the sport in a way that builds on what we're already doing with other initiatives like the Brooks PR Invite, PR Challenge, and more."
For Franklin, the Brooks NIL deal adds another milestone to an already stellar young career. With her eyes set on continuing her dominance in 2025, the LSU-bound sprinter will look to further cement her reputation as one of the brightest young talents in American track and field.
