Kingston College's Daniel Clarke delivered a performance for the ages on Sunday’s final day of the Carifta Trials at the G.C. Foster College, leaving the competition in his wake in the boys’ under-20 110-metre hurdles.
Clarke dismantled a Carifta-quality field that included the previously unbeaten Shaquane Gordon of Calabar. He surged across the finish line in a blistering 13.06 seconds, leaving Gordon trailing in second place with 13.38. Shakir Lewis of Jamaica College rounded out the top three in 13.98 seconds.
Adding to the fireworks on the final day was World Under-20 bronze medallist Shanoya Douglas of Muschett High, who turned in an electrifying performance in the girls’ under-20 200 metres. In an epic duel with 100-metre champion Sabrina Dockery of Lacovia High, Douglas displayed her trademark late-race strength. Dockery had stormed out of the blocks and built a commanding lead over the first 100 metres, but Douglas reeled her in with a powerful surge down the stretch, taking the win in a swift 23.12 seconds. Dockery settled for second in 23.61, while Rihana Allen of St Elizabeth Technical finished third in 24.16.
Tiana Marshall of Wolmer’s Girls’ was also impressive in the girls’ under-20 100-metre hurdles, winning in 13.33 seconds. St Jago’s Bryanna Davidson finished second in 13.45, while Akeelah Bell, also of Wolmer’s, was third in 13.51.

In the boys’ under-17 110-metre hurdles, Mark Daniel Allen secured first place in 13.73 seconds. Brandon Bennett of Kingston College finished second in 13.87, while Kamarly Fletcher of Calabar took third in 13.90.
Holmwood’s Jaydon Collins added the under-17 200-metre title to the 100-metre crown he won on Friday’s opening day. Collins clocked 21.67 seconds for the win, relegating the Edwin Allen pair of Kalel Archibald (21.85 seconds) and Taheem Thompson (21.86 seconds) to second and third, respectively.
After finishing third in the girls’ under-17 100 metres, Rihanna Scott of Ferncourt bounced back in style, capturing the 200-metre title in 24.13 seconds. Wilson of Alpha was second in 24.34, while Danelia Clarke of Edwin Allen was third in 24.57.
With the late withdrawal of 200-metre champion Gary Card in the boys’ under-20 200 metres, St George’s College’s Tyreece Foreman, running out of lane eight, scored a massive upset, winning in 20.97 seconds. Antonio Powell of Edwin Allen was second in 21.05, with Calabar’s Junior Gallimore third in 21.23.
There was high drama in the girls’ under-20 400-metre hurdles as overwhelming favourite Kelly-Ann Carr — the season’s leading female in the event — fell at the final barrier despite holding a big lead. Vere Technical’s Shevaughn Thomas capitalized, winning in a personal best of 58.87 seconds. Rhianna Lewis of Rhodes Hall also ran a personal best, finishing second in 58.89, while Daynea Colstock of Green Island High was third in 59.32.
In a fiercely contested boys’ under-20 400-metre hurdles final, Princewell Martin of Jamaica College posted a personal best of 50.84 seconds to take the win. Robert Miller of Calabar also ran a personal best, finishing second in 50.89, while Taj O’Neil Gordon of Kingston College was third in 53.11.

Cindy Rose delivered an outstanding performance in the girls’ under-20 800 metres, winning in 2:09.78 after a thrilling duel with her sister, Jovi, over the final 80 metres. Jovi finished second in 2:10.54, while Denae Hodges was third in 2:14.55.
