Great Britain’s Matthew Hudson-Smith etched his name in the history books on Saturday night, winning a fiercely competitive men’s 200m to become the first-ever Grand Slam Track (GST) Long Sprints Champion at the series' inaugural staging in Kingston, Jamaica.

The Olympic 400m silver medalist delivered a late surge in the final metres to edge Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards and claim the crown—and with it, a cool USD$100,000 top prize reserved for the athlete who accumulated the most points across both events at the meet.

Hudson-Smith timed his drive perfectly, pushing through a tightly bunched field to take the win in 20.77 seconds. Richards, a former World Indoor 400m champion, was just behind in 20.81, while Jamaica’s Deandre Watkin claimed third in 20.91.

Hudson-Smith's victory capped an outstanding weekend, as he also placed second in the 400m on Friday night, earning a combined 20 points (12 for Saturday's 200m win and 8 from the 400m), which secured his place atop the men’s points standings.

The 200m field was stacked with quality, and the battle down the stretch did not disappoint. Watkin’s third-place finish in 20.91 was just fractions ahead of USA’s Vernon Norwood, who clocked 20.93, the same time as Christopher Bailey, Friday's 400m winner.

Bailey, who had powered to 12 points with his 400m win, added four more from his 200m run to finish with 16 points overall—just shy of Hudson-Smith’s winning tally.
