Airdrie and Morton played out a dull goalless draw in the teeming rain that did little to help either side.

In a 90 minutes featuring just two on-target shots, neither could lay a strong claim to deserving the three points.

The home side thought they had claims for a penalty when Lewis McGregor went down in the box late in the second half, but no decision came.

Morton head into Christmas in fifth, with their opponents two places lower in seventh.

Inverness ended a two-match losing run in the Scottish Championship with a 1-1 draw at third-placed Partick Thistle.

Duncan Ferguson’s side, who are third from bottom, took the lead in the first minute through Max Anderson, who netted from a Billy Mckay pass.

But the visitors’ lead only lasted 14 minutes as Jack McMillan fired in from close range.

David Wotherspoon and Anderson shot just wide for Inverness, while Danny Devine cleared McMillan’s effort off the line at the other end.

Struggling Arbroath missed out on a much-needed win as Dunfermline snatched a stoppage-time equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

Lewis McCann thought he had given Dunfermline the lead after 17 minutes but his strike was ruled out for offside and the visitors lost Chris Hamilton and McCann to injury in the first half, which proved costly as they fell behind before the break.

Jay Bird opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time with a low finish to cap an impressive solo effort.

Mark Stowe went close to doubling the hosts’ lead in the second-half before Bird was sent off for two bookable offences, with Craig Wighton heading in a late leveller.

Dundee United were unable to find the breakthrough against struggling Queen’s Park as their Scottish Championship clash ended goalless at Hampden Park.

United had a chance when Kevin Holt’s header was blocked on the line before Jordan Tillson’s strike was saved by Queen’s Park goalkeeper Calum Ferrie.

Tony Watt had a great opportunity to put the visitors ahead from close range but was unable to find the net and Ferrie was called into action again to save Louis Moult’s effort.

The result sees second-placed United remain five points behind leaders Raith, while the Spiders stay bottom of the table.

Lewis Vaughan scored a hat-trick as Scottish Championship leaders Raith clawed back a 4-4 draw against 10-man Ayr in a thrilling contest.

Aiden McGeady opening the scoring in the 28th minute, slotting the ball into the bottom corner to hand Ayr the lead, but Raith responded a minute later when Sam Stanton went around the goalkeeper to roll the ball home.

Ayr were soon reduced to 10 men when Sean McGinty was sent off in the 43rd minute and Vaughan quickly took advantage to put Rovers in front two minutes later with a header into the top corner.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, the Honest Men equalised 10 minutes into the second half when Ben Dempsey fired home from outside of the box and Logan Chalmers put them back in front in the 63rd minute, only for Vaughan to level in the 81st minute from the penalty spot.

The drama continued as Ahkeem Rose restored Ayr’s lead four minutes later, but Vaughan had the final say with a goal in stoppage time to salvage a point for the leaders.

Ayr ended a run of five cinch Championship games without a win as they recorded a 1-0 victory over Airdrie.

The victory saw the Honest Men climb above their opponents into sixth place in the table.

The decisive moment came in the 15th minute when Anton Dowds headed home Jamie Murphy’s corner.

Rhys McCabe came closest for the visitors in the 30th minute when his free-kick was superbly tipped over the bar by Robbie Mutch.

Ten-man Morton extended their cinch Championship winning streak to three games following a narrow 1-0 victory at home to Queen’s Park.

Robbie Muirhead handed the home side an early lead as he slotted Robbie Crawford’s cross into the bottom corner from close range for his 10th goal of the season in all competitions.

But the hosts were reduced to 10 men on the stroke of half-time as George Oakley was sent off for a challenge on Jack Thomson. Moments later, Ton goalkeeper Ryan Mullen saved Ruari Paton’s penalty to keep his side ahead at the break.

Jack Spong tested Mullen as the match approached the hour mark, while Jack Turner and Thomson both missed the target before team-mate Tommy Robson had an effort blocked as the Spiders fought to pull one back. But the hosts held on for the win.

Partick Thistle closed in on second-placed Dundee United in the cinch Championship after a 2-1 win at Dunfermline.

The Jags took advantage of the Terrors’ defeat by Raith Rovers to reduce the gap to six points.

Thistle went ahead after 12 minutes when Harry Milne headed home a cross from Steven Lawless.

They doubled their advantage in the 45th minute when Brian Graham poked home from close range, and although the Pars pulled one back from Matthew Todd, they could not level.

Dylan Easton’s second-half strike made it five cinch Championship wins in a row for Raith Rovers as they secured a 1-0 win over Dundee United at Tannadice.

That left Rovers five points clear of the Terrors, who have a game in hand, at the top of the table.

Easton scored his ninth goal of the season after 59 minutes when he weaved his way around a trio of defenders and curled into the top corner of the net.

Chris Mochrie came closest to finding the net for United but was denied by a superb full-length save from Kevin Dabrowski.

Arbroath ended a run of seven successive Scottish Championship defeats with a 2-1 victory at Inverness.

The Red Lichties took the lead in the 29th minute when Jay Bird fired left-footed into the bottom corner from Scott Stewart’s cross for his seventh goal of the season.

Billy Mckay maintained his fine form by levelling for Inverness 10 minutes later with a neat finish from Cameron Harper’s delivery – his fifth goal in seven games.

But the visitors regained the lead three minutes before half-time, David Gold heading home from Jermaine Hylton’s ball, and defended resolutely after the break to move off the bottom of the table.

Lewis Vaughan scored a last-gasp winner as Raith Rovers returned to the top of the cinch Championship with a 2-1 victory over Arbroath.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Aidan Connolly drilled in from eight yards.

Basement side Arbroath equalised on the half-hour mark when Jermaine Hylton slammed home from the penalty spot after they were awarded a spot-kick for handball.

Arbroath looked like they would hang on for an unlikely point but Rovers snatched victory deep into stoppage time when Vaughan’s effort deflected in.

George Oakley and Jack Baird lifted Morton from the foot of the cinch Championship table courtesy of a 2-1 home win over Inverness.

The home side, who won at Arbroath on Saturday, took the lead in the 20th minute when Oakley made the most of a mix-up in the Inverness defence.

They might have increased their advantage two minutes before the break but for goalkeeper Mark Ridgers’ save from Kirk Broadfoot, although opposite number Ryan Mullen had to be equally resilient to deny Billy McKay as time ran down.

However, they did go 2-0 ahead with 10 minutes remaining when Baird blasted into the roof of the net after Lewis Strapp’s throw-in had fallen to him.

Adam Brooks headed in to cut the lead deep into stoppage time but Inverness suffered just a second defeat of Duncan Ferguson’s 10-game reign.

George Oakley’s late winner earned rock-bottom Morton a crucial 2-1 win at fellow strugglers Arbroath in the cinch Championship.

Both sides went into the game in dismal form, with the hosts having lost six in succession while Morton had not claimed a point from their last four.

The visitors grabbed the lead in the 37th minute when Lewis McGrattan fired home after a neat through-ball from Jack Bearne, and the same player came close to doubling his tally early in the second half.

Arbroath hauled level just past the hour mark when David Gold ran into the box and shot past Morton keeper Ryan Mullen.

But Morton seized the points in the 79th minute when Oakley capitalised on a long throw to strike the winner and give his side only their third win of the season to date.

Goals from Josh Edwards and Matty Todd helped Dunfermline see off potential play-off rivals Airdrie with a 2-1 win at the Excelsior Stadium.

The visitors had to survive a pair of early scares with keeper Deniz Mehmet tipping a Josh Allen header onto the bar before Nikolay Todorov also headed against the woodwork.

Edwards grabbed the opener after a neat pass from Lewis McCann and Dunfermline doubled their advantage midway through the second half through Todd’s finish.

Airdrie continued to press with Mehmet tipping a header from Calum Gallagher over the bar then saving point-blank from Callum Fordyce.

The Diamonds finally made their breakthrough deep into injury time when Gallagher slotted home a consolation from the penalty spot.

Inverness recovered from an early setback to overcome Queen’s Park 4-1 at Hampden Park.

Jack Turner converted Dom Thomas’ cross to put the Spiders ahead after 10 minutes.

But Inverness, who suffered defeat for the first time under Duncan Ferguson against Raith seven days earlier, levelled after 21 minutes through Max Anderson and Niko Ujdur’s close-range header put them ahead just before the hour mark.

David Wotherspoon provided a two-goal cushion 15 minutes from time, and Billy Mckay’s penalty completed the visitors’ biggest win of the season.
