Raith Rovers kept on the coattails of cinch Championship leaders Dundee United with a 2-1 win at Morton.

After Josh Mullin had struck the crossbar with a free-kick, he turned provider for Aidan Connolly to open the scoring in the 26th minute.

Connolly headed home in style and then made it two five minutes before the break when he converted Ross Millen’s cross.

The hosts made a game of it in the second half, with Ian Wilson tapping home the rebound after Jack Baird had rattled the crossbar, but they could not find a leveller.

Kai Fotheringham’s double helped Dundee United extend their unbeaten run in the cinch Championship with a 2-0 victory at Airdrie.

The forward scored in each half for the Terrors, who remain top of the table following an eighth league win of the season, while Airdrie fall into fifth.

Dundee took the lead 20 minutes in when Glenn Middleton picked out Fotheringham, who fired the ball home. Middleton had a chance of his own just before the break but Joshua Rae made the save.

The visitors scored their second after taking advantage of a loose ball, with Declan Glass able to tee up Fotheringham to earn his brace in the 52nd minute.

David Wotherspoon’s debut goal earned three points for Inverness as they held off a second-half fightback from Airdrieonians.

Veteran Wotherspoon fired Inverness in front eight minutes before the break with a fine low finish on his first appearance since ending his 10-year association with Premiership side St Johnstone.

Airdrie’s Adam Frizzell and Caley Thistle’s Charlie Gilmour were both denied penalties early in the second half, with the former booked for simulation before he then had a goal disallowed for handball by Nikolay Todorov.

Home keeper Mark Ridgers denied Calum Gallagher and Craig Watson, and kept out Lewis McGregor’s awkward cross, while Nikola Ujdur’s block denied the frustrated Frizzell as the hosts held out.

Sam Stanton struck at the death as second-placed Raith claimed the Fife derby spoils in a 1-0 victory over Dunfermline.

A dull game was heading for a goalless draw, but midfielder Stanton fired into the bottom right-hand corner three minutes into stoppage time to seal the points just as he did at East End Park two months ago.

After a poor first half, Rovers were grateful to Polish goalkeeper Kevin Dabrowski who pulled off a double save to deny Owen Moffat and then Aaron Comrie after the break.

Raith applied the pressure after that scare as the lively Lewis Vaughan tested Deniz Mehmet with a long-range strike, but Stanton struck late on to keep the pressure on cinch Championship leaders Dundee United.

George Oakley headed a late winner as Morton grabbed a 1-0 cinch Championship victory at Ayr.

Robbie Muirhead’s curling effort was well blocked by Ayr captain Sean McGinty for a corner and Tyler French headed just over from close range while at the other end, Logan Chalmers was twice denied by keeper Jamie MacDonald.

MacDonald got down low to save efforts from Chalmers and Roy Syla in the second half before turning Jamie Murphy’s long-range strike onto the bar, with Chalmers putting the rebound wide.

Ayr’s pressure came to nothing, though, as Morton instead snatched the points when former Kilmarnock man Oakley met Alan Power’s free-kick to head home.

Queen’s Park saw their winless Championship streak extended to eight games following a topsy-turvy 2-2 draw at home to Partick Thistle.

The hosts dominated the majority of the first-half possession but could not break the deadlock with efforts from Lewis Reid and Dom Thomas kept out before Alex Bannon headed wide, while the Spiders had a goal ruled out for a foul on Thistle goalkeeper Jamie Sneddon.

At the other end, Brian Graham and Kerr McInroy both tested Calum Ferrie before Louis Longridge conceded a penalty – on the stoke of half-time – which Steven Lawless converted to put the visitors ahead.

Queen’s Park equalised seven minutes into the second half as Ruari Paton fired home a spot-kick of his own, awarded following a foul from Ola Williams on Jack Turner.

Four minutes later, Turner picked out the top corner to hand the home side the lead, but they were pegged back on-loan Swindon striker Tomi Adeloye moments later as the spoils were shared.

Unbeaten Dundee United stretched their lead at the top of the Scottish Championship to seven points with a 6-0 win over Arbroath.

Louis Moult slotted the hosts ahead after only seven minutes and they had doubled their lead after a quarter of an hour through captain Ross Docherty.

They were 3-0 up by half-time after Kai Fotheringham’s 43rd-minute tap-in.

Tony Watt rifled in the fourth just before the hour, Moult added his second from close range and Mathew Anim Cudjoe wrapped up the scoring.

Kevin Holt scored a hat-trick against his former club as Dundee United romped to a 5-0 win at Partick Thistle.

The visitors went ahead in the 11th minute when Glenn Middleton found Craig Sibbald in acres of space and he fired home through a crowded area.

United took full control with two goals in as many second-half minutes.

A fierce drive from Holt found the top corner after 62 minutes and shortly afterwards Scott McMann made it three with a thumping effort from Louis Moult’s knockdown.

Ross Docherty saw a strike from distance come back off the crossbar, but United added a fourth after the dismissal of Partick’s Aaron Muirhead, with Holt deflecting the ball past the keeper from a corner.

Holt completed the rout, and his hat-trick, with a fifth from the penalty spot after Watt had been fouled.

Ayr made it three successive away wins and leapfrogged Dunfermline in the cinch Championship table with a 1-0 victory at East End Park.

The Pars should have taken an early lead when Josh Edwards blazed over and were made to pay in the 10th minute as Logan Chalmers scored his fourth goal in as many games after some excellent build-up play.

The visitors went close to doubling their lead shortly afterwards when Mark McKenzie ran clear only for Aaron Comrie to make a last-ditch tackle which prompted Dunfermline manager Jake McPake to make a double substitution.

The hosts piled on the pressure after the break and went closest through Ben Summers, whose shot struck a post and the follow-up from Alex Jakubiak was brilliantly saved by Charlie Albinson.

Jack Turner salvaged a rare point for 10-man Queen’s Park as they hit back to grab a 1-1 draw with Airdrie at the Excelsior Stadium.

The Spiders headed into the game with just one point from their last six cinch Championship games and fell behind shortly before half-time.

Liam McStravick’s pass sent Calum Gallagher racing clear and he coolly slotted the opener past visiting goalkeeper Calum Ferrie in the 39th minute.

Queen’s Park pulled level straight after the break when Josh Turner pounced on a poor clearance by Airdrie keeper Josh Rae to fire home.

Ferrie pulled off two superb saves to deny Airdrie late on, while the visitors finished with 10 men after Barry Hepburn was sent off in stoppage time following an off-the-ball incident.

Ayr returned to winning ways in the cinch Championship with a 2-1 victory at Airdrieonians.

The Honest Men had lost four of their last five matches in the league, including a 2-1 home defeat against Raith last time out, but they impressed at the Excelsior Stadium.

The visitors took the lead midway through the first half when a Jamie Murphy ball into the box was slotted home at the back post by Logan Chalmers.

Anton Dowds doubled Ayr’s advantage in the 53rd minute after evading a challenge and firing in a powerful effort with the help of a deflection.

Lewis McGregor pulled a goal back for Airdrieonians after 67 minutes following a scramble in the box but their two-game winning run was brought to an end.

Out-of-form Queen’s Park and Morton drew 0-0 in their Scottish Championship clash at Hampden Park.

Queen’s Park, beaten in their previous five league matches, came close in the 18th minute when Ruari Paton hit the post.

The visitors, who had picked up a single point from their last six games, struck the woodwork themselves through Robbie Muirhead midway through the second half.

However, neither side could find the target and the game ended goalless.

Dundee United remained top of the Scottish Championship after hitting back to draw 1-1 at second-placed Raith Rovers.

Louis Moult cancelled out Lewis Vaughan’s opener to keep United a point clear of their closest challengers.

Home goalkeeper Kevin Dabrowski kept out Kai Fotheringham’s effort in a cagey start between two in-form sides.

Rovers went ahead in the 24th minute when Vaughan poked home on the rebound after his own header came back off a post.

But the visitors maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign thanks to substitute Moult’s 67th-minute header from a Declan Glass corner.

Scottish Championship strugglers Inverness held Partick Thistle to a goalless draw at the Caledonian Stadium.

Partick Thistle hit the woodwork just after half-time as Aidan Fitzpatrick’s ball across the box clipped the post.

Brian Graham forced Inverness goalkeeper Mark Ridgers into a save following a swift counter-attack as the visitors continued to carry the greater threat.

Inverness, who picked up their first win of the season against Arbroath last weekend, came close on 73 minutes as Charlie Gilmour whistled an effort past the post.

Partick Thistle had a great chance to win it three minutes from time but Tomi Adeloye fired over from close range.

Dylan Easton scored a first-half double as Raith beat Ayr 2-1 in the cinch Championship.

Easton opened the scoring after 24 minutes when Sam Stanton found him on the edge of the box.

The pair combined again two minutes later with Easton producing another clinical finish for second-placed Rovers.

Anton Dowds halved the deficit five minutes after the break, but Ayr have now lost five of their seven league games.
