Fresh off her double-gold medal performance at the UANA Cup in Lima, Peru, Barbados’ swimming ace Danielle Titus has won herself a scholarship to Tulane University, a private university in New Orleans in the USA.
Titus, 17, a sixth-form student at the St. Michael’s School, will pursue studies in either business or marketing with a minor in languages. She said there are many positives to attending Tulane.
“This would allow me to better myself as an athlete and to improve tremendously as I would be under the guidance from Leah Martindale, the first Barbados swimmer to reach the finals at the Olympics,” she said.
“Thus I’m looking forward to working with her. “In relation to my academic career. I would be exposed to some new subjects and this may help me in figuring out exactly what I want to be.”
Titus, who is to depart for New Orleans before orientation begins on August 20, has been an outstanding swimmer for Barbados. She has had tremendous success in the backstroke events.
Her impressive resume includes owning almost all the backstroke records for both the 25-metre and Olympic pools. The only reason she does not have all is that she is not has aged up to break the 18 and over records.
She has never lost the 100-metre backstroke race at the CARIFTA Games and was the highest-ranked CARIFTA region female backstroke swimmer at the inaugural UANA Cup in 2018.
Titus was also the highest ranked CARIFTA-region female in the backstroke.
She also has also raced well at CCCAN, Pan Am Games, World Championships, and World Short Course Championships.
