President of Bahamas Aquatics, Algernon Cargill, has expressed immense pride in Team Bahamas’ performance at the World Aquatics Short Course Swimming Championships (25m) in Budapest, Hungary.

Despite not yet securing a place in the finals at the championships, which is scheduled to end on Sunday, the four-member team has already showcased remarkable talent, led by standout swimmer Lamar Taylor. Emmanuel Gadson, Rhanishka Gibbs, and Victoria Russell are the other members of the team.

“I’m particularly excited about the performance of The Bahamas’ team, particularly Lamar Taylor’s swims in the 100m freestyle event. His two swims so far were exciting. He was able to shatter the national record in each of his two swims,” Cargill said, reflecting on the team’s efforts thus far.

Taylor has so far broken three national records, including an outstanding performance in the men’s 100m freestyle on Thursday. He first set clocked a new record of 46.89 seconds in the heats and later surpassed it in the semifinals with a time of 46.34 seconds to finish 13th overall.

Additionally, Taylor set new national records in the men’s 50m butterfly, finishing 39th overall in 23.24 seconds, and the 50m backstroke, clocking 23.51 seconds. He is also expected to compete in the men’s 50m freestyle later in the competition.

Gadson clocked 1:00.42 in the men’s 100m breaststroke but failed to advance to the semifinals, and the same was true for Gibbs, who clocked 1:14.99 in the women’s 100m breaststroke.

Meanwhile, Russell’s time of 28.72s in the women’s 50m butterfly was also not enough to progress to the next round.

Despite these outcomes, Cargill acknowledged their strong performances, as the Bahamian sensations continue to strive for excellence on the world stage in the few events remaining.

“Rhanishka Gibbs had a pretty good swim in the 100m breaststroke. Emmanuel Gadson had an excellent swim in the 100m breaststroke. Victoria Russell started the team off with a great swim in the 50m fly,” he said.

“This small team is certainly making a big impact here at the world championships, and we certainly expect great things during the rest of the championships,” he declared.
