Arizona Cardinals linebacker Chandler Jones requires biceps surgery and will sit out the rest of the NFL season.

Jones left Sunday's 30-10 victory over the New York Jets with the injury and is expected to be out of action for three to four months.

The loss of the All-Pro pass rusher, who finished second in the 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting, is a significant blow for the 3-2 Cardinals.

"He's a tremendous player, as we all know. Great person. Great leader on this team," said head coach Kliff Kingsbury on Wednesday.

"It's not going to be easy, but we have some guys who have seen playing time this year who will continue to play and get more."

Jones led the NFL in sacks in 2017 and had 19 last year, with Shaquil Barrett (19.5) just edging him out for the honour. The Cardinals star had just one sack this season.

Arizona will hope to soon have fellow starting outside linebacker Devon Kennard back from the calf injury that has kept him out of the past two games.
