England-born attacker Brie Grierson has always viewed netball as more than just a sport. For her, it’s a connection to her roots, a platform to inspire, and now, a pathway to history.
At 27, Grierson, who previously represented England at the youth level, has embraced her Jamaican heritage through her father. That resulted in her decision to switch allegiance, as she was captivated by the Sunshine Girls’ energy and camaraderie during the England leg of the Horizon Netball Series.
Grierson’s addition to the Sunshine Girls squad marks a new chapter in her career and a significant boost for Jamaica’s netball ambitions, as her skill, determination, and passion for the sport could see her becoming a key player in their future quest.
But for now, Grierson is simply eager to make her much-anticipated debut in the three-match series against South Africa, starting Saturday at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston.
“I’m so excited to debut for the Sunshine Girls, as well as a little nervous,” Grierson admitted, her voice tinged with anticipation.
“I’m Jamaican, so I’ve been thinking about this for a while. To finally have the opportunity to represent the country of my roots is truly an honour and almost like a dream come true,” she told SportsMax.Tv.

Grierson’s journey to this moment began in school, where her love for netball blossomed. Over the years, the friendships she’s built and the people she’s met have been the highlights of her career.
“Netball started for me at school, and the journey has been one of fulfilment. The best part for me has to be the people I meet and the friends I have made along the way,” she shared.
“I feel very fortunate to play the sport I love, travel, and meet incredible people. It’s taught me to stay humble and always be grateful,” Grierson added.
Grierson’s immediate goal is to make a positive impact in her debut series, but her aspirations go far beyond the South Africa matches. She envisions herself playing a pivotal role in helping the Sunshine Girls secure their first-ever gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and Netball World Cup.
“It’s funny because my biggest accomplishment so far is being named in the squad for this series, and I am hopeful that I will make my international debut,” Grierson said.
“But my ultimate goal is to help the Sunshine Girls become number one in the world. I truly believe this is another stepping stone toward that and toward achieving gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and World Cup,” she declared.

Having done the hard work over the last week or so, where they focused on team dynamics and individual performance, Grierson believes the third-ranked Sunshine Girls are ready to showcase their strengths.
In fact, she is quietly confident about making her debut memorable by contributing to what she hopes will be a 3-0 sweep of the fifth-ranked South Africans.
“We’ve had a tough training week, really focusing on what we can bring to the court, so we feel prepared and ready to go. As a team, we’re aiming for a clean sweep, and I believe in us to achieve this,” she declared.
“For me, individually, I’m just looking forward to my debut and doing well, but for the team, like I said, it’s about becoming number one in the world and winning gold at the Commonwealth Games and World Cup. That’s the vision, and I’m all in,” Grierson, who will suit up for Nottingham Forest Netball in the Superleague, ended.
