Jamaican Arkansas senior Joanne Reid and Trinidadian Texas senior Kelsey Daniel started their 2025 NCAA Indoor seasons in fine form with wins at the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville on Friday.
Reid, a member of Arkansas’ historic 4x400m squad last season and a NACAC U-23 4x400m silver medallist from 2023, produced a meet record 52.01 to win the women’s 400m ahead of teammates Sanaria Butler (52.58) and Kayla Davis (53.51).
The previous meet record was 52.10 set by Shawnti Jackson in 2024.
Reid then returned later in the day to finish second in the 200m in 23.29. Olympic relay gold medallist and Arkansas teammate Kaylyn Brown won in 23.03 while Anya Jackson, also of Arkansas, was third in 23.65.
In the field, Trinidadian Texas senior Kelsey Daniel crossed the 8m barrier for the first time to win the men’s long jump.
The two-time Trinidadian national champion produced 8.03m to win ahead of teammate Solomon Washington (7.85m) and Arkansas freshman Juriad Hughes (7.61m).
Daniel’s previous personal best was 7.99m done back in 2023.
