Reggae Girlz goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer has signed with reigning Women’s Super League (WSL) champions Chelsea on an emergency loan from Tottenham Hotspur for the remainder of the season.

The 34-year-old shot-stopper, once Spurs’ first-choice keeper, has seen limited game time under head coach Robert Vilahamn but will now hope to regain form and make an impact at Chelsea, a club she previously represented between 2016 and 2018.

Spencer’s move comes as Chelsea sought cover following Femke Liefting’s long-term injury and Zecira Musovic’s pregnancy announcement. Under league regulations, the club was able to recruit and register a replacement outside of the transfer window.

The experienced Jamaican international brings a wealth of success to the squad, having previously won a WSL title and FA Cup with Chelsea. She also lifted several domestic trophies with Arsenal and was part of their UEFA Women’s Champions League-winning squad in 2006/07.

Spencer, who made her Jamaica debut in 2021 and was a key part of the Reggae Girlz’ historic run at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, has played for clubs including Nottingham Forest, Gillingham, Soyaux, Birmingham City, and Spurs.

Now donning Chelsea’s number 38 jersey, Spencer is set to play a crucial role in the squad’s push for silverware this season.
