
Jamaica’s Zandrian Barnes produced a strong performance to capture the men’s 400m title at the Drake Relays on Saturday, leading a series of notable showings from Caribbean athletes in Des Moines, Iowa.
Barnes, representing Adidas, powered to victory in 45.29 seconds, edging out Khaleb McRae of the United States, who finished second in 45.38. Nigeria’s Chidi Okezie rounded out the top three in 45.46. Jamaica’s Sean Bailey, also competing for Adidas, placed fourth in 45.74.
In the women’s 100m hurdles, Bahamian star Denisha Cartwright continued her fine form by finishing second behind Olympic champion Masai Russell. Russell, representing Nike, clocked 12.74 seconds (-1.4m/s), while Cartwright, running for Puma, crossed the line in 12.93. Rayniah Jones of the USA was third in 13.00. St Lucia's Aasia Laurecin was close behind for fourth in 13.02 with Jamaica's Demisha Roswell taking fifth in 13.27.
The Caribbean presence remained strong in the men’s 110m hurdles final, with Jamaica’s Lafranz Campbell finishing fourth in 13.68 seconds (-2.0m/s), and Cayman Islands’ Rasheem Brown placing seventh in 13.90. The race was won by De’vion Wilson of the USA in 13.46, ahead of compatriots Jamal Britt (13.62) and Connor Schulman (13.64).
