Jamaica's U17 football team delivered a dominant performance in their Concacaf World Cup qualifying match against the Cayman Islands, securing an emphatic 10-1 victory at the Estadio La Pedrera in Guatemala on Wednesday evening. The impressive win marks the first time since 2014 that the U17 Reggae Boyz have hit double-digit figures in goals, reminiscent of their commanding 19-0 triumph over the US Virgin Islands in August of that year.
Jamaica took control of the match from the onset, with Jaquan Brown opening the scoring in the 11th minute with a well-placed header off a cross from Dario White. The onslaught continued with Cadriano Marsh doubling the lead in the 25th minute via a penalty, calmly slotting his shot into the bottom left corner after Dario White was brought down in the box.
Zienodean McLean extended the lead in the 37th minute, nodding in a pinpoint cross from White to make it 3-0. The Reggae Boyz continued to pile on the pressure, with Seymour Reid adding a brace before halftime, capitalizing on defensive lapses to give Jamaica a commanding 5-0 lead at the break.
Owen Jumpp wasted little time resuming the scoring in the second half, finding the bottom right corner with a powerful shot from outside the box in the 48th minute. Jamaica continued to dominate possession and create scoring opportunities, with Jahmarie Nolan and Jaquan Brown each adding to the tally, stretching the lead to 8-0 by the 68th minute.
Orel Miller then netted Jamaica's ninth goal in the 73rd minute with a precise finish into the top left corner, before Nolan struck again in the 80th minute with a long-range effort to make it 10-0.
Cayman Islands managed to get on the scoreboard in the 84th minute when Jagger Alban converted a penalty after Charles Morrison was fouled inside the box, denying Jamaica a clean sheet but doing little to dent their commanding victory.
The match also featured several notable moments, including crucial saves by Cayman Islands’ goalkeeper and a spirited attacking effort from their forwards, but Jamaica's dominance was evident throughout. The young Reggae Boyz now look ahead to their next fixture with confidence, knowing they are in strong contention for advancement in the Concacaf World Cup qualifiers.
