Jamaica’s Under-17 Reggae Boyz will be aiming to return to winning ways and secure a spot in the knockout round of the Torneo del Sol competition in Mexico when they face Liga Premier in their final group-stage fixture on Wednesday.

Game time is set for 1:30 pm Jamaica time, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.

The young Boyz started their campaign with a thrilling 3-2 win over Seleccion Bajio on Monday but stumbled in their second match, losing 0-2 to Seleccion Norte Under-19 on Tuesday.

Now sitting second in the group on three points, level with Norte but ahead on goals scored, Jamaica must secure an efficient victory to advance. Liga Premier lead the group with six points after convincing 2-0 and 3-0 wins over Bajio and Norte, respectively.

With Norte set to face bottom-placed Bajio, a close result or a slip-up from the Altimont "Freddie" Butler-coached Reggae Boyz could spell elimination.

Goal difference may also become the deciding factor for the two qualifying spots, and that places added pressure on the Boyz to deliver a statement performance against a formidable Liga Premier team.

Assistant coach Vassell Reynolds acknowledged the task at hand, as he pointed to the need for the young Reggae Boyz to elevate their game to compete against a strong Liga Premier lineup in preparation for next month’s Concacaf Men’s Under-17 qualifiers.

The coaching staff is expected to finalize the squad following the tournament, making this a critical opportunity for players to showcase their readiness.

“It is very important game for us, mostly as we continue to use these games as direct preparation for the World Cup qualifiers next month. It's about giving all the players an opportunity to be exposed to what will be similar conditions that we will face then and to have a better idea of what each player is capable of under such conditions and the areas we need to focus on over the next few weeks,” Reynolds told SportsMax.Tv.

“A good performance and a positive result are important for us in today's game from a moral and confidence point of view. But we continue to focus on the real objective of this tour, and that's to use the games to prepare for us for the qualifiers,” he added.
