Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard has spent her career lifting teammates and fans alike with her towering presence and unmatched consistency on the netball court. But this week, it was the West Coast Fever’s turn to lift her in the most beautiful and unexpected way.
In a touching tribute to one of the Suncorp Super Netball League’s most decorated stars, the Fever surprised the Jamaican goal-scoring machine with a 12-metre mural in the heart of Perth, celebrating not only her extraordinary achievements but also her resilience in the face of recent heartbreak.
The mural, painted on Wellington Street next to RAC Arena, was revealed to Fowler-Nembhard and her family in an emotional moment that left the athlete, who boasts well over 5,000 goals in her SSN career, visibly touched.
"We surprised Jhaniele with a 12-metre mural dedicated to her and her story. We revealed the mural to Jhaniele and her family. Safe to say… it was pretty special," the club shared on social media.

The tribute comes at a deeply personal moment in Fowler-Nembhard’s life. The 35-year-old recently suffered a miscarriage, a loss that weighed heavily on her and her family. As such, the mural was created not just to celebrate her career but to uplift her spirit and let her know she is cherished.
After a nine-month absence from the court, she returned on Sunday with a masterclass performance, netting 59 goals from 60 attempts to lead West Coast Fever to their first win of the season in a 67–57 beating of the Melbourne Vixens.
If there were doubts about her readiness, Fowler-Nembhard, who holds the record for the most goals in a single SSN season and has been the league’s leading scorer every year since 2018, erased those in minutes.
"I think Fowler-Nembhard just showed the dominant player that she is and the superstar status that she has absolutely earned over her career,” said Fox Netball analyst Dylan Nexhip.
"For her to come back into the mix and put in a performance like that is incredible. What a testament to her and the work she’s been able to do to put herself back in that position. Hat off to her," he added.
Meanwhile, Fever's head coach, Dan Ryan, also praised the impact of Fowler-Nembhard’s return, as he pointed to the manner in which her presence stabilised and reinvigorated the squad.
"That was one of the best team performances I’ve seen in my time at this club. We’re back. That is us,” Ryan said.
But perhaps the most telling measure of her impact is the mural itself — a colourful reminder that greatness is not just about records and awards but about heart, strength, and the ability to inspire others even in the face of personal grief.
