Title contenders turn focus to Michael Holding Senior Cup quarter-finals

After weeks of intense group-stage battles, the title contenders in the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Michael Holding Senior Cup have finally separated themselves from the pack and now shift their focus to the all-important knockout phase of the competition.

With the preliminary round concluding on Sunday, the quarter-finalists are now locked in for the Stewart’s Auto-sponsored tournament, with the next round set for May 10–11. Among the eight teams advancing are unbeaten Zone C winners St Mary Cricket Association, defending champions Kingston CC, and in-form rural outfit Trelawny Cricket Association—each now just two wins away from a spot in the grand final.

St Mary wrapped up their dominant group stage with a fourth straight win, easily defeating St Ann by 10 wickets at Jacks River. They will meet Zone F winners St Catherine CC, who edged Melbourne for group honours by net run rate after their drawn match at Derrymore Road saw both teams finish with 22 points.

That thrilling match featured centuries from Jose Northover and Renalda Ingram for Melbourne and Marlon Williams for St Catherine, with Melbourne’s Matthew Comrie also impressing with a five-wicket haul.

Meanwhile, Trelawny booked their spot by steamrolling Westmoreland by an innings and 87 runs. Osburn Palmer starred with nine wickets in the match for Trelawny, while Howard Palmer contributed a century to their commanding total. Trelawny will face Clarendon, who cruised to a 10-wicket win over Manchester to seal top spot in Zone A.

In other quarter-final action, Kingston will battle Melbourne in a marquee matchup at Sabina Park, while Kensington, who emerged atop Zone E, will square off with the Jamaica Defence Force at Kensington Park.

The semi-finals will be played on May 24–25, with the championship final scheduled for June 7–8.
