Captain Rashada Williams led from the front with a composed half-century as defending champions Jamaica Scorpions Women began their CG United Insurance Super 50 title defense with a 51-run victory over Trinidad and Tobago Women at Warner Park on Monday.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Jamaica posted 223 all out in 49.5 overs, with Williams top-scoring with 51 off 85 balls. She received support from Stafanie Taylor (49 off 56), Chedean Nation (37 off 37), and Jodian Morgan (22 off 31) as they built a solid total despite losing wickets in the latter stages of the innings.
Anisa Mohammed (3-40) and Karishma Ramharack (2-42) led the bowling effort for Trinidad and Tobago.
In response, Trinidad and Tobago Women struggled to gain momentum and were eventually dismissed for 172 in 46.4 overs. Djenaba Joseph (32 off 53) and Steffie Soogrim (34 off 31) showed some resistance, but the disciplined Jamaican bowling attack ensured there would be no comeback.
Vanessa Watts (3-34 in 9.4 overs) was the standout bowler, while Jodian Morgan (1-24 in 10 overs) and Kade Wilmott (1-16 in six overs) were also instrumental in stifling the Trinidadian batters. Chedean Nation (1-43) and Neisha-Ann Waisome (1-22) provided key breakthroughs.
With this commanding win, Jamaica Scorpions Women sent a strong message to their competitors as they look to retain their title. Their next fixture will be crucial in maintaining their early momentum in the tournament.
