Jamaica Women captain Rashada Williams blasted her team’s performance in the field in their CG United Super50 Cup opener against Trinidad & Tobago at Warner Park in St. Kitts on Monday.

Even though Jamaica came out on top in the end by 51 runs, their fielding left a lot to be desired with dropped catches and fielding errors allowing Trinidad & Tobago to get extra runs throughout their chase.

During a media interaction on Tuesday, Williams, in her first tournament as full-time captain of the team, described it as one of Jamaica’s worst days in the field.

“Yesterday’s performance was probably one of our worst performances in the field but it was good to come out with a win as defending champions,” she said.

“The aim was, obviously, to win so that was really good but, in the field, it was a terrible day for us. We toughed it out as a unit and came out victorious,” Williams added.

Jamaica fielded two debutants on the day, opener Chrishana McKenzie and left-arm seamer Kade Wilmott.

On a more positive side, Williams was pleased with her team’s batting effort, recovering from scoring only 55 in the first 20 overs to post over 200.

“As a batting unit we did well. We got off to a poor start but we picked it up in the back end and thought we had a defendable total and it was really good to see our bowlers come out there and defend it,” she said.

Williams led the way with the bat with 51 while Stafanie Taylor and Chedean Nation chipped in with 49 and 37, respectively.

“It was good to get a half-century and it was unfortunate that I got out when I did but Stafanie Taylor and Chedean Nation had a really good partnership to help us reach that total,” Williams said.

Their bowlers then came together to dismiss their opponents for 172 in 46.4 overs.

Jamaica will next take on Guyana in round two at St. Paul’s Sports Complex on Wednesday.
