Barbados Pride pacer Kemar Roach picked up another four wickets to end with second-innings figures of 6 for 84, as the team wrapped up a 127 runs win over Winward Islands Volcanoes, in the West Indies Championship at Bridgetown.
Heading into the final day finding themselves 325 runs in arrears, with seven wickets in hand, saving the game would always have been a tough task. Those hopes were dealt a big blow early on when Roach had Devon Smith, the man often the architect of great Windwards comebacks, dismissed lbw.
Smith, who ended day three on 16, was unable to add to his total. Fellow overnight batsman Alick Athanaze added another 12 to his total of 21 but was next to be dismissed by Roach, on 33, after he was caught by Kraigg Brathwaite.
Left-handed batsman Keron Cottoy, however, offered stubborn lower-order resistance, his 103 from 114 balls keeping the Windwards in the game. With wickets falling around him at regular intervals, however, the Hurricanes were eventually all out for 271. Keon Harding also featured prominently among the wickets after claiming 3 for 65. Roach ended with overall match figures of 147 for 8. The Pride had first innings figures of 417 before adding 239 for four the second time around. In response, the Windwards first made 258.
