Mitchell Owen hit an unbeaten 101 to lead the Hobart Hurricanes to an eight wicket win over the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League on Saturday.

The Hurricanes restricted the Scorchers to 155-6 from their 20 overs after skipper Nathan Ellis chose to bowl first after winning the toss at the Bellerive Oval.

Josh Inglis and captain Ashton Turner led the way for Perth with 49 and 39, respectively, while Keaton Jennings chipped in as well with 35 off 28 balls at the top of the order.

Pacer Riley Meredith took 3-27 off his four overs for Hobart.

In pursuit of 156 to win, Mitchell Owen and Caleb Jewell brought the score up to 32 before Jewell fell for seven in the fourth over, bringing Shai Hope to the crease to join Owen.

From there, the two produced a match-winning 101-run second winning partnership before Hope went for 38 off 35 balls in the 17th over, with the Hurricanes now needing just 23 off 20 balls.

In the end, the Hurricanes reached 156-2 with four balls remaining. Owen’s 101* came off 64 balls and included nine fours and five sixes.

Jason Behrendorff took both wickets for the Scorchers.
