Shukri Conrad has responded to Michael Vaughan's claims about the manner of South Africa's passage to the World Test Championship final.

South Africa coach Shukri Conrad dismissed Michael Vaughan's claims the Proteas beat "pretty much nobody" to reach the World Test Championship final.

Conrad's side, who will face Australia in the showpiece in June, finished top of the World Test Championship table after wrapping up a 2-0 series victory over Pakistan.

The Proteas are unbeaten in red-ball cricket since losing to India 12 months ago, and have since gone on to beat the likes of New Zealand, Sri Lanka and West Indies.

Former England captain Vaughan was critical of South Africa's progression to the final, telling Fox Cricket they got there "on the back of beating pretty much nobody".

However, Conrad quickly rejected those claims.

"One of the nobodies we beat won a Test match in Australia - West Indies beat Australia in a Test match. They are not nobody," he told ESPN Cricinfo.

"New Zealand beat India three-zip in India. New Zealand is not a nobody. Sri Lanka won Test matches [against England and New Zealand]. I don't buy this thing about us beating nobody."

Meanwhile, Kagiso Rabada underlined his side's confidence at going on to get the job done in June.

"South Africa against Australia has always been an intense rivalry because we play cricket quite similarly - we play hard," the fast bowler told Sky Sports. "They're going to come hard, we know that, but we also know how to beat them."

"The guys are looking forward to it," captain Temba Bavuma added. "It's not going to be a mean feat [to beat Australia], but we will enjoy this moment and celebrate and deal with it closer to the time."
