Australia were victims of the weather at the Gabba, despite trying their best to force a result against India on the fifth day.

Australia and India have drawn the third Test following a weather-hit fifth day, which limited play to just a handful of overs at the Gabba in Brisbane.

Almost the entire morning session was lost due to rain and the threat of lightning, although Travis Head was able to claim the final wicket of India's innings with Australia chasing an unlikely result.

There was brief hope when the sunshine returned in the afternoon, with Australia's second innings lasting just 18 overs as they went in search of quick runs.

Jasprit Bumrah (3-18) ripped through the top order to leave the hosts 33-5 at one stage, although captain Pat Cummins knocked 22 from 10 balls before they declared on 89-7.

That second-innings total had set India a target of 275 to win with a minimum of 54 overs, but any hope of a spectacular climax to the Test match was soon extinguished with bad light stopping play as India were 8-0.

Rain then arrived again shortly after the players shook hands at 15:30. The series resumes with the fourth Test in Melbourne on 26 December, with both teams tied at 1-1.

Data debrief: Bumrah impresses on stop-start day in Brisbane

Bumrah had already sealed his place as the top wicket taker in Test cricket in 2024, but his three wickets on day five took him to 62 for the year.

That took him to 10 above England's Gus Atkinson, who is his nearest competitior.
