With Jaguars in trouble on 21-3 in the ninth over, Barnwell scored 107 off just 90 balls to rescue the innings. The career-best knock surpassed his previous highest of 99 not out.

Wicket-keeper Anthony Bramble followed up by smashing 69 from 49 balls, also the highest score of his List A career. Then lower-order batsman, Ramaal Lewis, hit a whirlwind 35 off 22 balls, to help lift the Jaguars to an imposing 299-9 off their 50 overs.

Barnwell struck four boundaries and six sixes, first adding 91 for the fourth wicket with Akshaya Persaud (25) before putting on a further 88 for the fifth with the attacking Bramble.

Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie then spoiled the Scorpions run chase, as he picked 4-55 to move his tally to nine wickets from three matches.

Seamers Niall Smith (2-15) and Romario Shepherd (2-26) supported with crucial wickets as Scorpions declined from 116-3 in the 28th over, to 190 all out in the 45th over.

Andre McCarthy top-scored with 48 from 55 balls, captain Rovman Powell chipped in with 32 from 44 while Aldaine Thomas scored 29 but the Jamaicans failed to build any meaningful partnerships and lost their second match of the tournament.

Shimron Hetmyer led Jaguars in the absence of injured captain Leon Johnson and noted the side’s winning streak was important. “It’s really nice to be on the winning side to be honest and it’s always good to win back-to-back games. That’s what we always talk about and it’s a good feeling for us,” he said.

The Red Force romped to victory in last Saturday’s final by 152 runs over the Guyana Jaguars. They were the only unbeaten team in the competition winning all seven matches giving skipper Kieron Pollard the honour of lifting the CG Insurance Super50 Sir Clive Lloyd Trophy.

In the wake of the impressive showing, CWI President Ricky Skerritt sent congratulatory messages to the team and the president of the TTCB President Azim Bassarath.

“This was a remarkable show of force by Trinidad from start to finish,” Skerritt said.

“It was a total team effort and Red Force found a match-winner at every stage. The other five franchise teams, including losing finalist Guyana Jaguars, all worked hard and showed good fighting qualities to varying degrees. But The Red Force was more dominant and consistent than ever, and simply unstoppable.” 

The CWI president in a direct message to the TTCB boss said: “Congrats on a great tournament and final victory for TTCB and your team. This incredible performance should emphasize the vital importance of planning and preparation. I hope it has also reminded us why cricket administrators should not simply throw away senior players while these players still have such good value to their team and country. Successful cricket teams employ a healthy balance of youth and experience, just like your team did in winning this tournament.”

President Skerritt also thanked the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, local health and medical officials, the tournament officials and operators from the Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association, The Leeward Islands Cricket Board, and CWI and tournament sponsor CG Insurance who worked diligently to make the CG InsuranceSuper50 event such a huge success.

The lanky left-arm orthodox spinner from St Maarten proved unplayable to the Scorpions, who were bowled out for 123 in 32.5 overs. Only Odean Smith, who scored 26 and Nkrumah Bonner, 24, offered any real resistance. Alzarri Joseph took 2-24 in support.

Led by Kieran Powell’s unbeaten 80, the Leewards made quick work of the target racing to 124-2 in just 14 overs. Karima Gore was not out on 19 at the end. Nicholson Gordon dismissed Kofi James for 12 to finish with figures of 1-28. Kaecy Carty lost his wicket to Fabian Allen who conceded 33 runs from just overs in the lopsided affair.

 Lewis’ 107 was made in just 92 balls and included eight fours and seven sixes as the Red Force successfully chased down 258 for 6 made by the Scorpions.

The big-hitting Lewis featured in a 112-run second-wicket partnership with Jason Mohammed that laid the foundation for the Red Force chase after Lendl Simmons was trapped lbw without scoring five balls into the first over bowled by Sheldon Cottrell.

When Mohammed got out for 28, Lewis put on 49 in quick time with Darren Bravo to maintain the momentum. Lewis was finally out to leave the Red Force at 161 for 3 at the end of the 25^th, just 98 runs shy of the target.  Those runs were quickly achieved as Darren Bravo and Nicholas Pooran mounted a fourth-wicket stand of 62 that took the Red Force within 27 runs of victory with 77 balls left.

Bravo was unbeaten on a run-ball 59 that included two fours and five sixes, while Pooran hit six fours in his 43.

Captain Kieron Pollard was dismissed for one by Andre McCarthy who finished with 2 for 30. Dennis Bulli also took two wickets but was expensive, conceding 84 runs from his allotment of overs.

Earlier, Brandon King’s 97 was the backbone of the Jamaican innings but the Scorpions failed to capitalize. King and Andre McCarthy posted a third-wicket stand of 116 before McCarthy got out for 40 in the 33^rd over to leave the Scorpions at 155 for 3.

However, Jamaica only managed 103 runs from the last 17 overs on a good batting pitch.

They only managed to get past 250, thanks to 43 from 44 balls by Rovman Powell, who also featured in a 46-run fifth-wicket partnership with Paul Campbell, who made 21.

Anderson Phillip took 3 for 66 from his 10 overs, while there was a wicket each for Kieron Pollard, Ravi Rampaul and Akeal Hosein.

In what was a must-win match for both teams, if they were to remain in the tournament, McCarthy stepped up for Jamaica taking career-best figures of 6-16 as Barbados, chasing 2019 for victory, crumbled to 167 all out.

Jamaica will now go onto play the unbeaten Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in the semi-final on Wednesday.

In a match that Jamaica’s bowlers provided the runs and the wickets, McCarthy, a senior middle-order batsman, failed to deliver with the bat, bowled by Joshua Bishop for a duck after facing just five balls. It was during a spell when Jamaica’s first five batsmen fell for just 35 runs within the first nine overs of their innings.

But while the Scorpions’ batsmen struggled, they found a sting in their tail in the form of an unbeaten 68 by Odean Smith, who while producing his career-best List A score, helped Jamaica’s last two wickets put on 131 runs.

Jamie Merchant’s 37 and Jeavor Royal’ 16 also contributed to the significant wag in the Scorpions’ tail.

However, for McCarthy, not being able to deliver with the bat, spurred his belief that he had to contribute to the team’s chances of getting to the semi-finals.

“I’m one of the senior players in this team and have to give a big performance. I didn’t make any runs so I knew I had to contribute with something in the game. I told the skipper ‘give me the ball and I am going to do the job for you today,” McCarthy said after the victory.

“I’ve been working really hard on my bowling. I was in Bangladesh with the West Indies team and I was doing a lot of bowling. The coach really recognized my bowling and it’s something that is working for me now.”

Despite winning the man of the match award for his six-wicket haul that featured a game-changing hat-trick in his ninth over, McCarthy said he thrived on the backing of his teammates.

“It’s overwhelming and just a full team effort, everyone believed in me and I just went out there and did the job,” he said.

“I normally keep it tight as a bowler and knew once I did that on this surface, the wickets would come. When I bowled to their batsmen they were tentative, so I just applied the pressure.”

Barbados last won the title in the 2016/17 season and Holder believes that with a shortened season before them, they need to be ready to win consistently.

“We are really looking forward to the first tournament of the year. It’s great to be back and there is a lot of excitement in our camp. We are focused on winning,” Holder said.

“It will be important to hold our nerve under pressure and execute under pressure. The team that is most consistent always wins, and we have to look at being consistent and win for our country and our fans.”

Meanwhile, Red Force Captain Kieron Pollard believes his team is blessed with a good blend of youth and experience to advance to the finals and eventually win it all.

“I believe we have a very good team in terms of youth and experience and we can go that step further and make it to the finals,” he said.

“In the last few years, we missed out, reaching the semi-finals and being beaten, once by CCC and once by Leewards. Hopefully, we have all the energy and all the gas in the tank and go all the way. This promises to be a really good tournament, and I know players will be aiming to impress and improve their careers.”

Both captains are among several West Indies stars set to participate in this year’s tournament.

In addition to Holder and Pollard, players such as Roston Chase (Barbados Pride), Shimron Hetmyer (Guyana Jaguars), Sheldon Cottrell (Jamaica Scorpions), Hayden Walsh Jr (Leeward Islands Hurricanes), Nicholas Pooran (Trinidad and Tobago Red Force) and Andre Fletcher (Windward Islands Volcanoes) have signalled their participation in the tournament.

Whilst COVID-19 related constraints mean that 2019-2020 Champions, the West Indies Emerging Players, are unable to defend their title, eight of those talented young winners from the 2019 tournament have found spots in the competing franchise teams, including Keon Harding, Dominic Drakes and Justin Greaves (Barbados Pride), Kevin Sinclair (Guyana Jaguars), Ashmead Nedd (Leeward Islands Hurricanes), Jayden Seales (Trinidad and Tobago Red Force) as well as, Kimani Melius and Roland Cato (Windward Islands Volcanoes).

It was the first win for the Jamaican who has already been eliminated from the final four and came in the unlikeliest of manners.

Put into bat, Jamaica were looking likely to lose their fourth game in a row at 135 for 9 as Quinton Boatswain (2-35), Ashmead Nedd (3-23) and Terance Ward (2-54) scythed through the fragile Jamaican batting.

Only Paul Palmer (23) and Rovman Powell (29) posed any resistance to the Leewards’ bowling until Royal and Allen came together mounting an 85-run 10^th wicket partnership that took Jamaica to 220 all out.

Allen scored 44 from 42 balls with three sixes and three fours before he was last out. Royal remained unbeaten on 38 from 40 balls from which he got two sixes and two fours.

Chasing a modest 221, the Leewards were 72 for 3 when Nitish Kumar and Devon Thomas looked to steer the team towards victory with a fourth-wicket stand of 64 when Jamie Merchant, who took 3-44, dismissed Kumar for 51.

Thomas eventually fell for 44 as the Leewards stumbled to 152 for 6, needing a further 69 from the remaining 71 balls.

Colin Archibald and Terance Ward held up the Jamaicans with an eighth-wicket stand of 27 but then the weather intervened shortly after Rovman Powell got Archibald for 18.

Royal, who took the wickets of Kieran Powell for 17 and Kacey Carty for 13, returned 2-31 to complete his man-of-the-match performance.

Man-of-the-Match Carty, who was a member of the West Indies team which won the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2016, recording his maiden List A century, an unbeaten 123 that included nine fours and three sixes on a good pitch at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.

However, it was Walsh that turned the match when in the final stages, with an asking rate of close to 14 runs per over, the left-handed Walsh smashed three massive sixes of a Chemar Holder over to score 28 off just nine balls which kept the chase alive.

Twenty-six runs came from the over that helped put Leewards on the path to victory while chasing 302.

 In the high-scoring contest, Barbados Pride made 301-8, Leewards Islands Hurricanes replied with 305-6 as they reached the target with three balls to spare and picked up their first points of the tournament.

“I just kept going because I kept the team goals in mind. I knew I had to stay there for the team and bat to the end,” Carty said afterwards.

“It was a really good knock, but the others around me also played well and overall it was a great win for the team. I will look to do a similar kind of job in the next match and the others to come. We are confident and this win will give is a big boost.”

Earlier, Shamarh Brooks top-scored with 96 off 88 balls while left-hander Jonathan Carter made 58 off 91 balls. The pair added a record 160 for the third wicket for the Pride.

Fast bowler Quinton Boatswain, who claimed two wickets off successive deliveries in the 48th over, finished with 4-52 — his second four-for in as many matches — while leg-spinner Walsh claimed 3-75.

 Jamaica Scorpions will take on the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Thursday starting at 9 am (8 am Jamaica).

Stoute scored 86 and Ambris 70 and their third-wicket partnership of 119 laid the foundation for the Windwards’ 284 all out off 49.2 overs.

They came together after Kimani Melius and Desron Maloney were already back in the pavilion midway the eighth over with 40 runs on the board.

When Ambris departed for 70 that included eight fours and a six, Stoute and Emmanuel Stewart put on 68 for the fourth wicket when Stoute got out in the 42^nd over. Stewart was out five balls later but Roland Cato (11) and Rayon John (15) helped push the final score to 284.

Bowling for the Leewards Quinton Boatswain took 4 -45 from his 10 overs while Sheeno Berridge 3-65 and Hayden Walsh 3-79 provided support.

Chasing 285, the Leewards were dismissed for 253 in 49.3 overs despite Kumar’s 112 from 106 balls that included nine fours and two sixes.

He put on 43 for the third wicket with Ross Powell, who made 46 and 79 for the fifth wicket with Montcin Hodge who made 28 but there were never enough partnerships to take Leewards to the target as Preston McSween, Larry Edward, Ray Jordan and Kerron Cottoy each took two wickets to stymie the run chase.

On Monday, the Guyana Jaguars will face the Barbados Pride at the same venue.

Chasing 218 for victory, Barbados were cruising along at 118 for 1 but crumbled losing their last nine wickets for just 49 runs in what will go down as a famous victory for Jamaica.

Shai Hope and Justin Greaves put on an opening stand of 52 when Jamie Merchant broke the partnership with the wicket of Greaves for 36. Hope and Shamarh Brooks then added 66 for the second wicket when, with the score at 118, Brooks was run out for 27.

Hope carried on to a half-century while adding 23 with Johnathan Carter before he was caught by Brandon King off Fabien Allen for 51 and triggered a rot from which Barbados would never recover.

Allen then had Carter caught and bowled for 26 as Barbados reached 152 for 4, opening the door for McCarthy to take the next six wickets as Barbados collapsed to 167 all out.

After getting Jason Holder for one and Nicholas Kirton for 3 with the scores at 153 for 5 and 163 for 6, respectively, McCarthy dismissed Ashley Nurse for 2 and Akeem Jordan and Joshua Bishop in consecutive balls to have Barbados on the verge of defeat at 165 for 9.

He would bowl Chemar Holder for 2 with the first ball of his next over as Barbados fell for 167.

McCarthy finished with 6-16 from 9.1 overs and was rightly named Man of the Match. Allen took 2-41.

It was a match in which the bowlers rescued Jamaica with the ball and the bat.

Jamaica’s last two wickets added 131 runs that eventually got them to 218 all out from a precarious position after 24.2 overs of 87 for 8 after Bishop ripped through the Jamaican top order taking 5 for 35 from his 10 overs.

However, Odean Smith scored an unbeaten 68 from 75 balls and featured in an 80-run ninth-wicket partnership with Jamie Merchant who contributed an invaluable 37.

Smith and Jeavor Royal (16) then took Jamaica beyond 200 runs with a stand of 51 and onto what turned out to be a winning total.

Ashley Nurse took 2-51.

 Jamaica finished their preliminary round in fourth place on eight points.

Chasing a relatively modest target of 254, Trinidad started out well despite losing the wicket of Kjorn Ottley for four in the second over of the innings. His dismissal brought Mohammed, who provided a well-needed backbone to the Trinidad line up. He and Lewis put on 117 for the second wicket in 19 overs.

When Lewis got out to Roston Chase for 61, Mohammed and Denesh Ramdin added 29 over the next eight overs as the bowling tightened.

Then came the slide that saw Trinidad fall away from 150 for 2 to 158 for 5 as Ramdin fell for 10 and Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran went without scoring.

However, Mohammed found a useful partner in Sunil Narine who scored 18 in a partnership worth 49.

Akeal Hosein helped Mohammed add another 45 before the latter fell for 122 that included 10 fours and two sixes and brought Trinidad to within sight of victory at 252 for 7. Hosein was unbeaten at the end on 20 as Trinidad managed to get to 256 without further loss.

Chase, who also got the wickets of Pooran and Ramdin finished 3-21 from his 10 overs and Dominic Drake 2-47.

Earlier, half-centuries from Justin Greaves, Johnathan Carter and Roston Chase were undermined by a five-wicket haul from Kieron Pollard as Barbados Pride scored 253 for 9 from their 50 overs.

Greaves hit six fours and a six in his score of 62 and featured in an opening stand of 44 with Zachary McCaskie (16) and 42 with Shamarh Brooks who made 20.

However, it was Carter and Chase, who came together at 106 for 3, who managed to push the score along producing a fourth-wicket stand of 102 before Carter got out to Akeal Hosein for 56.

Red Force captain Kieron Pollard then went to work taking the next five wickets including that of Chase for 56, as the Pride slumped from 208 for 4 to 253 for 9.

Chase and Holder had managed to put together 33 runs between them before the latter was dismissed for 18 with the score at 241 in the 48^th over.

Pollard finished with 5 for 17 from three overs while Akeal Hosein took 2-44.

Pollard heads a seasoned squad of players that include the likes of Evin Lewis, Lendl Simmons and the hard-hitting Nicholas Pooran. Darren Bravo, who will form part of the strong squad will also serve as vice-captain for the team that were semi-finalists last time out.

The T&T selectors have also picked the experienced Jason Mohammed, who is on West Indies duty in Bangladesh as well as former West Indies representatives Sunil Narine, Denesh Ramdin and Ravi Rampaul.

Imran Khan, Akeal Hosein, opener Kjorn Ottley, Khary Pierre, Anderson Phillip and Jayden Seales are also in line to represent the team from the twin-island republic that on paper should start as favourites to win the shortened version of the competition in 2021.

Pooran hit five fours and eight sixes in his 111 that came from just 82 balls and was instrumental in getting the Red Force to 312-6, the highest score in the competition this season.

Chasing 313 for victory, Barbados were restricted to 302-8 despite an incredibly valiant 130 not out from 79 balls by Roshon Primus, his highest List A score.

The Pride were in early trouble at 13-2 in the fourth over after Shannon Gabriel had Zachary McCaskie caught at slip for one before returning to bowl Kyle Hope for four. The Pride slipped into further trouble at 45-3 when Sunil Narine had Shai Hope caught behind for 24.

Johnathan Carter and Nicholas Kirton got Barbados back on track with a 63-run partnership that got them to 108 when Shannon Gabriel picked up his third wicket, having Carter caught at deep backward point by Jason Mohammed for 45.

Kirton did not last much longer.

Fourteen balls and 10 runs later, he was caught by Narine off the bowling of Yanick Cariah for 35 leaving Barbados sinking fast at 118-5, still 195 runs behind.

When Shamar Springer was trapped lbw by Imran Khan for five, all seemed lost for Barbados, who at this point were 146-6.

However, Roshon Primus and Akeem Jordan were not ready to give up. Together they put together a run-a-ball 93 runs for the seventh wicket before things unraveled for Barbados for the final time. Jordan was run out off the first ball of Gabriel's eighth over for 33. Gabriel then picked up his fourth wicket next ball when he bowled Jomel Warrican for a duck and suddenly Barbados, who were 239-6 had slipped to 239-8.

Primus continued to resist. Consecutive sixes and a boundary in the 45th over bowled by Terrance Hinds brought Primus his maiden List A century from just 61 balls.

With 17 needed from the final over being bowled by Shannon Gabriel, Primus hit the first ball for four but three dot balls followed, meaning Barbados needed 13 from two deliveries. Primus took two from the fifth and the match was over. Primus' unbeaten knock included 10 fours and nine sixes and with Camarie Boyce (13 not), he put on 63 for the ninth wicket but it was simply not enough.

Shannon Gabriel was the best of the Red Force bowlers finishing with 4-43.

 Batting first, T&T Red Force were in early trouble losing two wickets inside three overs after Akeem Jordan dismissed Kjorn Ottley for one and Jason Mohammed for a duck with consecutive deliveries. The early dismissals brought Jangoo and Bravo together and they put on 92 for the third wicket before Bravo was caught at fine leg by Jomel Warrican off the bowling of Springer for 54 in the 24^th over.

His dismissal brought Pooran to the crease and he immediately went after the bowling playing some injudicious shots and was fortunate not be dismissed early on. However, as he settled into his innings, he pummeled the bowling racing to 50 in just 41 balls. He put on 147 with Jangoo before the latter was caught by Jordan off Springer for 81 in the 44^th over. Pooran was eventually dismissed in the 46^th trying to hit Springer for six.

With the score 256-5, 300 looked on the cards and the Red Force duly obliged thanks to a sparkling cameo from Akeal Hosein who smashed 42 from just 20 deliveries. He hit three fours and three sixes in a 53-run sixth-wicket stand with Terrance Hinds before he was caught by Jordan off Springer in the final over.

Hinds was not out on nine and Sunil Narine on two at the end.

Springer finished with 4-64 from nine overs while Jordan returned figures of 2-31 from his allotment of 10 overs.

In match reduced by rain to 40 overs, Pooran scored an unbeaten 99 and Darren Bravo 67 not out sharing in an unbeaten fourth-wicket partnership of 155 as TT Red Force cruised to 249-3 (D/L). The West Indies white-ball captain scored his runs from just 71 balls and hit 11 fours and two sixes along the way. Bravo hit nine fours in his 63-ball knock.

Opener Kjorn Ottley made 43 for the Trinidad franchise while partnering in a 49-run second-wicket stand with Jason Mohammed, who made 25. Ottley was eventually dismissed after putting on 13 for the third partnership of 13 with Bravo, who would find a match-winning partner in Pooran.

Justin Greaves was the best of the Windward bowlers with 2-55. Preston McSween took 1-57.

Earlier, the Windwards recovered from a precarious 36-4 in the seventh over after Akeal Hosein 2-37 and Shannon Gabriel 1-36 did the early damage.

The owed their recovery to an unbeaten knocks of 90 from Sunil Ambris and 68 from Andre Fletcher, who shared in an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 165 that took the team to 201-4 from their 40 overs.

Unfortunately, thanks to Pooran and company it proved not to be enough.
