Jamaica’s Williams, Antigua & Barbuda's Lloyd impress in women’s 60m heats at World Indoor Championships

Jamaica’s Jodean Williams and Antigua & Barbuda’s Joella Lloyd secured wins in their respective heats of the women’s 60m in the morning session of day two at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China on Friday.

Williams narrowly took top spot in the second heat in 7.20 to advance to the semi-finals set for Saturday morning.

Luxembourg’s Patrizia Van Der Weken (7.21), Liberia’s Destiny Smith-Barnett (7.21) and Bahamian Camille Rutherford (7.25) made it through that heat.

Antigua’s Lloyd comfortable won heat six in 7.21 ahead of Great Britain’s Amy Hunt (7.26) and Sweden’s Julia Henderson (7.31).

Barbados’ Kishawna Niles ran 7.22 for second in the first heat to advance alongside Italy’s Zaynab Dosso (7.09), Canada’s Audrey Leduc (7.25) and Greece’s Polyniki Emmanoulidou (7.26).

Beyonce Defreitas of the British Virgin Islands ran a personal best 7.26 for fourth in the fourth heat to advance as one of the fastest losers. Behind Switzerland’s Mujinga Kambundji (7.20), Belgium’s Rani Rosius (7.23) and Australia’s Torrie Lewis (7.25).

Jamaica’s Natasha Morrison also made it through to the semis after a third-place finish in the fifth heat in 7.20 behind Poland’s Ewa Swoboda (7.16) and China’s Xiaoljing Liang (7.17).

Switzerland’s Geraldine Frey (7.26) and Trinidad & Tobago’s Michelle Lee-Ahye (7.28) also made it through from heat five.
