British sprinter Zharnel Hughes has been confirmed as one of the Racers for the 2025 Grand Slam Track season, which kicks off in Jamaica in April. Hughes, who trains in Jamaica and holds British records in the 100m (9.83 seconds) and 200m (19.73 seconds), brings a wealth of experience and speed to the innovative track and field series.
The 2025 Grand Slam Track series will feature four meets across premier locations: Jamaica, Miami, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. Hughes, a bronze medalist in the men’s 4x100m relay at the Paris Olympics, expressed his excitement about joining the new competition format.
"I'm driven by the desire to be the best, to inspire others, and to leave a lasting legacy,” said Hughes. “The future of our sport is bright, and with the global popularity of track, I think now is the right time to join Grand Slam Track. I can’t wait to get started and bring my speed to all four Slams. I look forward to seeing the other Racers on the track and finding out who the fastest of all is."
Hughes will compete against an elite field that includes reigning world 100m champion Fred Kerley, Jamaican sensation Oblique Seville, and U.S. star Kenny Bednarek in the 100m and 200m categories. This level of competition has Hughes fired up, describing the series as “almost like a championship in itself.”
Hughes joins a stellar roster of athletes for the 2025 season, including U.S. sprinter Brittany Brown, hurdler Caleb Dean, Ethiopian middle-distance star Diribe Welteji, and hurdler Freddie Crittenden. The addition of Hughes further elevates the series’ reputation as a platform for top-tier talent to compete head-to-head across multiple events.
Grand Slam Track is designed to bring a new level of excitement to track and field by offering a championship-style format across four global locations. Each meet promises high-stakes competition, dynamic storytelling, and a unique opportunity for athletes to showcase their talent to fans worldwide.
The inclusion of a world-class athlete like Zharnel Hughes is a testament to the potential of Grand Slam Track to redefine the sport’s competitive landscape. With its mix of elite talent and innovative competition, the series aims to captivate a global audience and inspire the next generation of athletes.
Hughes, who trains alongside some of Jamaica’s finest athletes, will begin his Grand Slam Track journey in front of a home crowd in Jamaica. Fans can expect electrifying performances as he and other Racers battle for supremacy in the sprint events across all four stops in the series.
The countdown to the inaugural meet is on, and the excitement is palpable as Hughes prepares to make his mark on this groundbreaking competition.
