Jamaica College (JC) formalized its partnership with Surgix Jamaica Limited during a press conference held at the school’s Old Hope Road campus on Wednesday. The partnership solidifies a two-year relationship in which Surgix has provided advanced medical and rehabilitative solutions for the school’s athletes.
Surgix Jamaica Ltd, a leading provider of prosthetics, joint replacement surgery, accident and trauma implants, platelet-rich plasma therapy, stem cell therapy, bracing, and orthotics, is committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate care aimed at helping patients regain mobility, confidence, and independence.
JC Principal Wayne Robinson highlighted the benefits Surgix has brought to the school’s athletic program.
“Surgix has been providing cutting-edge solutions for rehabilitative surgery and care of athletes. They have tools that can analyze your gait and other weaknesses that you may have in various areas of your anatomy. That analysis gives the coach and others an understanding of why things happen; what parts of your core, your body are weak. They analyze your walk, your running, and as far as recovery, they are not just giving you the analysis but they are also giving you the recommendations as to what to do about it,” Robinson said.
Robinson also praised Surgix’s stem cell surgery offerings, which have significantly aided athlete recovery.
“We have been getting stem-cell surgery for recovery so Dr. Derrick McDowell and Dwayne Johnson, our coach, have been working with athletes for their recovery, so they have had good recovery because of these stem-cell surgeries through Surgix,” he explained.
The partnership not only benefits Jamaica College but also opens opportunities for athletes across the island.
“What we did this morning (Wednesday) was just announce it so that it becomes available not just to Jamaica College but to Jamaica. Athletes would usually have to go over to Europe to get this kind of analysis and also recommendations for how you fix problems, and so it’s available here now.
“It has been a revelation for our athletes and they have been very happy about it,” Robinson added.
During the event, Jamaica College alum and one of Jamaica’s leading Orthopaedic surgeons, Dr. Derrick McDowell demonstrated Surgix’s innovative technology, demonstrating how it is used to analyze athletes’ biomechanics and provide actionable recommendations for recovery and performance improvement.
This collaboration marks a significant step forward in local sports science and athlete care, making advanced solutions once only accessible abroad available to Jamaican athletes.
