Toni Kroos was sent off in a 1-1 draw against lowly Girona as Real Madrid returned to the top of the table but dropped LaLiga points for only the second time this season.
Vinicius Junior's ninth goal of the season with just over 20 minutes of normal time remaining put Los Blancos in front at the Santiago Bernabeu.
That was not enough to secure the victory, though, as Marco Asensio was penalised for handball following a VAR check and Cristhian Stuani converted from the spot in the 80th minute.
Rodrygo had a late goal disallowed and Kroos was sent off for a second bookable offence as Los Blancos had to settle for a result that inched them a point above Barcelona at the summit, while Girona are out of the relegation zone.
Luka Modric shot wide in the second minute on his return from injury before Valentin Castellanos fired an early warning shot at the other end, drilling narrowly off target.
Rodrygo let fly with a rasping right-foot drive that was superbly tipped wide by Paulo Gazzaniga, but Girona continued to look dangerous and a header from captain Valery Fernandez flashed just past the left post.
A strike from Madrid forward Rodrygo rattled the right post and Yangel Herrera's left-foot effort for Girona crashed against the crossbar after Fernandez outmuscled Dani Carvajal.
There was a flashpoint early in the second half when David Lopez was perhaps fortune to only be shown a yellow card for a clash with Vinicius, who went down claiming the Girona defender headbutted him.
It was Vinicius who made the breakthrough in the 70th minute, Federico Valverde spinning away from a defender and giving the forward a tap-in from inside the six-yard box.
Gazzaniga brilliantly palmed Asensio's powerful strike against the bar soon after that opening goal, before the Madrid winger was adjudged to have handled in the box following a VAR check.
Stuani sent Thibaut Courtois the wrong way with a superb spot-kick, and there was more drama when Rodrygo found the back of the net, but the goal was ruled out as Gazzaniga had a hand on the ball when the striker poked it past him.
Kroos was then dismissed for a second bookable offence after a cynical stoppage-time foul as Madrid slipped up.
Jamaica Defence Force Captain Dwayne Ford dethroned Guyana’s Lennox Brathwaite to win the Wogarth Cup as Jamaica won the Team Match by the smallest of margins as the West Indies Full Bore Shooting Council Championship came to an exciting climax at Twickenham Park on Saturday.
Jamaica’s eight-member team were forced to dig deep to hold off a hard-charging Guyana which made the victory satisfying for Jamaica Rifle Association Vice-President Karen Anderson, who was also a member of the winning team.
"Jamaica is positively thrilled to have won the West Indies Cup team match on home soil and defeating Guyana in the process," she said.
"It has been a long slog in trying to beat them over the years and to do it on home soil, in particular, after a really tough tournament. We showed a great level of consistency. There might have been some doubt after the long-range team match the day before where we finished last but it bodes well for the team's confidence how we managed to end the tournament and win that particular cup."
She also reserved special praise for team leader, Captain Ford.
"It is even more heartening when you see Dwayne Ford win the Wogarth Cup which is a tremendous achievement in defeating Lennox Brathwaite, who is a seven-time Wogarth winner. We are on a high and we are just going to build on this going into next year's competition."
Captain Ford, a recently crowned O-Class champion, led his team by example. He and teammate Nicola Guy shot impressively at 300 yards, each scoring perfect scores of 50.4 to give Jamaica an early five-point lead. The home team scored 373.23 over its nearest rivals Antigua and Barbuda with Guyana on 360.16.
Jamaica extended its lead after 500 yards with a score of 379.20 but Guyana eventually narrowed the gap and claimed victory with a score 383.23.
Braithwaite answered the call at 500 yard with score of 50.3 that would prove pivotal at the final range as he and Ford battled for the Wogarth Cup that goes to the top-scoring shooter in the West Indies Cup.
At 600 yards, Jamaica dropped 10 points early on and found themselves in a major shoot-out with Guyana. However, the shooters managed to steel themselves and recovered to score 1114.58 to hold off Guyana who shot a 1113.63.
In the end, Ford defeated the seven-time champion Brathwaite by 0.1 to take the Wogarth Cup.
Marcus Rashford reached 100 goals for Manchester United by converting a fine header in Sunday's Premier League meeting with West Ham.
Rashford met Christian Eriksen's delicate right-wing delivery with a powerful header at the back post after 38 minutes at Old Trafford, putting Erik ten Hag's side 1-0 up.
The forward's goal – just the seventh he has scored with his head for United – made him the 22nd player to bring up a century of goals for the club.
He is the first United player to reach the landmark since Wayne Rooney in 2009. He went on to become United's all-time leading goalscorer.
Rashford has scored 82 of his 100 club goals with his right foot, while 88 have come from inside the penalty area and just 13 have not come from open play (four free-kicks, nine penalties).
The England international, who turns 25 on Monday, achieved the feat against one of his favoured opponents – he has now hit the net four times against West Ham in the Premier League.
However, prior to Sunday, all three of his goals against the Hammers in the competition had come as a substitute – only five players have scored more from the bench against a single opponent – Julian Joachim v Derby Count (five), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer v Nottingham Forest, Javier Hernandez v Chelsea, Olivier Giroud v Southampton and Robbie Keane v Man City (all four).
The Denver Broncos survived a frustrating first half at Wembley Stadium to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 21-17 as Russell Wilson returned from a hamstring injury.
Wilson, who sat out last week, looked extremely rusty early on, almost throwing an interception from his first pass and then giving up a pick that presented Trevor Lawrence with a short field for the first touchdown of Sunday's game.
Having capitalised on that mishap, however, the Jaguars failed to make the most of a sloppy Broncos display thereafter.
Although Denver had an alarming 10 penalties for 71 yards at halftime, they trailed only 10-7, with a Lawrence pass picked on the goal line by Justin Simmons before Wilson led the Broncos up the field late in the second quarter for Jerry Jeudy to score.
Pressure had again been building on Wilson and coach Nathaniel Hackett up to that point, but a 98-yard drive early in the second half allowed Melvin Gordon to run in and secure the Broncos a first lead.
Lawrence, rather than Wilson, had struggled badly since his earlier interception, but Travis Etienne Jr. gave the Jaguars hope of a first win since Week 3, adding a touchdown to his 156 rushing yards.
Instead, Wilson came to the fore again with a 47-yard pass to K.J. Hamler that set up the game-winning drive, finished off by Latavius Murray before Lawrence threw a second pick to K'Waun Williams, ensuring there was no route back into the game for Jacksonville.
Daniil Medvedev celebrated "one of the best victories" as he beat Denis Shapovalov 4-6 6-3 6-2 in the final of the Vienna Open on Sunday.
Playing in his first tour-level final since winning the Mexico Open in August, Medvedev found himself on the back foot after Shapovalov came out on top in a 50-minute opener.
The world number four conceded serve twice in the first set – the first time he had been broken throughout his run in Austria.
However, Medvedev hit back to claim the second set at the first time of asking.
Having lost serve twice in the decider, Shapovalov hung on in to frustrate Medvedev, saving six match points before finally succumbing to a deft drop-shot that the Canadian could only clip back into the net.
The victory marks Medvedev's second title of 2022, while it also ensures the Russian – who worked his way to world number one earlier in the year – will play in the ATP Finals next month, after going for glory at the Paris Masters.
"This match was the best of the week because Denis was really playing unreal until probably 4-3 in the second set," said Medvedev, who is aiming for a strong end to the season.
"He dropped his level by maybe two per cent and I was able to use it. This is one of the best victories when you know your opponent is on top of you, but you try and stay there and do what you can.
"I like to play indoor hard courts at the end of the season. I feel that I do a great job with my team not to arrive burnt out.
"I'm looking forward to the last two tournaments of the year which are really important and I usually play well."
Felix Auger-Aliassime climbed to sixth in the ATP Finals chase as he earned yet another title at the Swiss Indoors in Basel.
The Canadian had not won any of his eight career finals before this season, but he has now come through four of five in 2022.
Three of those have been in Auger-Aliassime's past three tournament entries, as he followed up successes in Florence and Antwerp by beating Holger Rune on Sunday.
Rune had himself won last time out against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Stockholm final, but he was brushed aside by Auger-Aliassime 6-3 7-5.
The world number nine threatened to wrap up the victory in double quick time as he raced through the opener, with Rune responding in the second set to drag the match out to 100 minutes.
Auger-Aliassime fended off a break point early in the second and two more later in the set, protecting his serve throughout and then going on the offensive.
The fourth of four break opportunities at 5-5 was seized, and Auger-Aliassime – fresh from beating world number one Carlos Alcaraz – served out the match at the third attempt.
The 22-year-old has never previously made the season-ending Finals but moved ahead of Andrey Rublev with his latest success.
Raphael Varane indicated he is on course to be fit for France's World Cup campaign as the Manchester United defender recovers from a leg injury.
Centre-back Varane is not expected to play any club football until the Qatar 2022 tournament gets under way, having been substituted in pain during United's October 22 draw at Chelsea.
He jarred his leg badly just before the hour mark at Stamford Bridge, casting doubt on whether he would be able to play any part in the finals for France boss Didier Deschamps, as Les Bleus defend their title.
News on the 29-year-old's recovery is positive though, with the 87-cap international posting pictures and a video on Sunday of him training at the France team's Clairefontaine headquarters.
He wrote in English: "Thank you everyone for the kind messages this week. I have been working! Feeling good."
His French language message said he had "been working hard and I feel a lot better", which is an update that will be welcomed by Deschamps.
The directive from Deschamps is that only fully fit players will go with France to Qatar, with a major question mark also hanging over Paul Pogba's readiness, given he has been sidelined for Juventus since July with a knee injury.
Deschamps said in a recent interview with French website Brut: "Leaving for a big competition with players who are not ready, already it occupies too much attention, and for those who have to play, it also monopolises the medical staff. I consider that we must leave with valid and capable players."
France start their World Cup campaign against Australia on November 22.
In his message on Sunday, Varane also wished United well for their Premier League game against West Ham, saying: "Good luck today boys."
Cristiano Ronaldo was given a start for Manchester United's meeting with West Ham, his first in the Premier League since being temporarily exiled from first-team activities.
Ronaldo was dropped for last week's dramatic 1-1 draw with Chelsea after refusing to come on as a substitute in a 2-0 win over Tottenham, and he was subsequently left out of first-team training.
However, Erik ten Hag recalled Ronaldo for Thursday's 3-0 Europa League win over Sheriff – a decision the 37-year-old validated by scoring his third goal of the season in all competitions – and the Dutchman kept faith with the striker.

Mikel Arteta's side dominated at Emirates Stadium to regain their two-point lead over Manchester City, despite losing Bukayo Saka to injury after he assisted Gabriel Martinelli's first-half opener on Sunday.
Saka's replacement Nelson added a quickfire second-half brace before teeing up Thomas Partey for the fourth, with Martin Odegaard capping victory with a powerful finish after 78 minutes.
Victory saw Arsenal emphatically respond to a 1-1 draw at Southampton and Europa League defeat to PSV, while Steve Cooper's side remain bottom with two league games left before November's World Cup break.
Martinelli headed Arsenal into a fifth-minute lead after finding the bottom-right corner following Saka's curling cross, before Gabriel Jesus whipped narrowly wide three minutes later.
Renan Lodi cleared a Martinelli effort off the line as Arsenal dominated the first half that was somewhat marred by Saka's removal following what seemed to be an ankle injury.
Nelson powered home on the rebound four minutes into the second half following a Dean Henderson save and doubled his personal account after turning Jesus' low near-post cross into the bottom-left corner.
Partey added a fourth with a delightful curler into the top-right corner from Nelson's offload to the edge of the area, before Jesus teed up Odegaard to smash past Henderson and seal a dominant win.
What does it mean? Arsenal continue title charge
Arsenal failed to replicate a dominant first half at Southampton, squandering a one-goal lead after an underwhelming second-half showing that was somewhat a throwback to the Gunners' struggles in recent years.
But Arteta's side avoided following suit in their next league outing, picking up their eighth straight win against newly promoted sides – their longest such run in the competition since an eight-game streak between January 2013 and April 2014.
While tougher tasks will follow, with a trip to Chelsea next Sunday, Arsenal continue to keep pace with City.
Super Saka upstaged by Nelson
Only Cesc Fabregas and Wayne Rooney reached 20 Premier League assists when younger than Saka, aged 21 years and 55 days, but England may be concerned over the winger's fitness ahead of the World Cup.
Nelson proved a capable deputy on the right flank for Arsenal, though, scoring his third and fourth Premier League goals in the space of just over three minutes. His first and second such strikes were spread across two years and 107 days.
Lost Lingard
Jesse Lingard may have fond memories of Emirates Stadium, labelling Arsenal's home ground as his "dance floor" after scoring in Manchester United's 3-1 FA Cup win in 2019.
But the midfielder failed to deliver on this outing in north London, managing the fewest touches of any outfield starter (14) and making just five passes before his 56th-minute removal.

Sparkling knocks from Aiden Markram and David Miller propelled South Africa to a five-wicket victory over India at the T20 World Cup.
The heavyweight nations put on a show at the Perth Stadium on Sunday, with Markram's 52 and Miller's unbeaten 59 seeing the Proteas claim a victory that moves them top of Group 2.
South Africa's bowlers had done a superb job of limiting India to 133-9 from their 20 overs, with Wayne Parnell (3-15) and Lungi Ngidi (4-29) in outstanding form.
Suryakumar Yadav's fantastic 68 ensured India had a sniff at defending a modest target, and their tails were up when Arshdeep Singh, the pick of India's bowlers with 2-25, dismissed Quinton de Kock and Rilee Rossouw in the second over.
With Temba Bavuma also falling, Markram had to get South Africa moving. His knock did not come without risk – he survived two run-out near misses and was dropped by Virat Kohli before his luck eventually ran out when he picked out Suryakumar in the deep.
Where Markram left off, Miller picked up, striking successive sixes to put South Africa in control.
Though India rallied to leave South Africa needing six runs from the final over, Miller held his nerve to get the Proteas over the line.
Kohli's fumble proves costly
After dismissing Tristan Stubbs in his fourth and final over with the ball, Ravichandran Ashwin (1-43) is just two away from becoming India's third-highest wicket-taker in men's T20Is.
However, he really should have had a 69th T20I wicket earlier in the innings when Markram found Kohli at deep midwicket, only for the former India captain to fail to take the catch after a juggle. Markram was on 35 at the time, and went on to add a damaging 17, including a huge six, to push South Africa on.
Markram and Miller turn on the style
South Africa's pace bowlers would have been hard done by had they finished on the losing side, with Ngidi having dismantled India's top order before fellow quick Parnell chipped away at the tail.
Fortunately, Markram and Miller – who struck seven boundaries each – delivered to ensure the bowlers' work was not fruitless, with the latter stepping up to guide the Proteas home. South Africa have now won their last six completed T20 World Cup matches, a new national record.
Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka was forced off with injury against Nottingham Forest, adding to England's fitness concerns ahead of the World Cup.
Saka created Gabriel Martinelli's fifth-minute opener on Sunday at Emirates Stadium, becoming the third-youngest player to 20 Premier League assists (aged 21 years and 55 days).
The England international appeared in some discomfort in the 15th minute, though, requiring medical treatment after what seemed to be a left-ankle injury following a challenge from Renan Lodi.
Saka attempted to continue but again went down after 26 minutes, with Mikel Arteta withdrawing the winger with Reiss Nelson replacing him.
England will be hopeful the injury to Saka proves not to be too serious, with their World Cup opener against Iran set for November 21.
With Reece James, Harry Maguire, John Stones, Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips all battling injuries, Gareth Southgate will hope Saka has just suffered a knock and not a serious setback.
Alvaro Morata is a doubt for Atletico Madrid's Champions League clash with Porto after suffering an ankle injury early in Saturday's defeat at Cadiz.
The Spain striker looked in great discomfort when he was replaced by Matheus Cunha just 10 minutes into Atleti's 3-2 LaLiga loss.
Morata underwent tests on Sunday, which revealed he has not sustained serious damage to his right ankle.
Atleti will monitor Morata ahead of a final Group B clash with Porto on Tuesday, when they will attempt to secure a Europa League spot after failing to qualify for the round of 16 of Europe's premier club competition.
"Alvaro Morata suffers from soft tissue edema in his ankle, according to the medical tests which he underwent this Sunday morning," Atleti stated.
"The Spanish international striker was substituted after 10 minutes of play in the game that we played this Saturday in Cadiz and the evolution of his discomfort will determine his incorporation into the group."
Diego Simeone's side were unbeaten in six games before slipping up at lowly Cadiz.
Trent Alexander-Arnold says Liverpool must "get some points" at Tottenham to get their "aims and aspirations" back on track.
Jurgen Klopp's side are ninth in the Premier League and could fall 15 points behind Arsenal, who play Nottingham Forest on Sunday as the Gunners aim to return to the top-flight summit.
Liverpool have suffered consecutive domestic defeats against strugglers Forest and Leeds United, the latter of which on Saturday ended a 29-match home unbeaten run for the Reds in the Premier League.
Klopp's team may take some consolation after reaching the Champions League knockout stages, though Alexander-Arnold urged his side to improve in the league at Tottenham next Sunday.
"I'd say we all believe in ourselves, we believe in the way we play, the squad and what we can achieve," the right-back told the club's website.
"But I think when you do get setbacks, it can potentially make you second-guess yourself and question things.
"Clearly as a team something's not going right, it's not going as well as we want it to go. That's something for everyone to think about, for everyone to address and make sure we put it right, especially next week against Spurs, top-four rivals.
"We kind of need to go there and get some points if we've got any chance of reaching our aims and aspirations for the season."
While Liverpool's title hopes are virtually over, with Manchester City and Arsenal embroiled in a two-horse race thus far, the Reds are also eight points away from the Champions League qualification places.
The England international acknowledged Liverpool have been far from their best this season, pinpointing the Reds' failures in front of goal, a notable problem in the 2-1 defeat to Leeds last time out.
"I think we are not in the greatest run of form – I think a lot of players would say that about themselves and as a team in general," he added.
"But we're still creating opportunities to score and win games. We just haven't been able to take them, especially [in the] last two Premier League games.
"I think it's important for us to regroup, assess what's going wrong. I think right now, it's kind of, 'pick up as many points as you can now going into this break [for the World Cup].
"And potentially this break will come at a decent time for us to reset and be able to get our heads straight to go into the second half of the season."
