Jamaica played unbeaten on their way to winning the 2021 Fireminds Rugby Americas North Sevens in the Turks and Caicos Islands on Sunday.
The Jamaicans defeated Mexico 21-7 in the finals held at the Meridian Fields in Providenciales. The tournament acts as a qualifier for next year’s World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series.
During the tournament that began on Saturday, Jamaica defeated TCI 24-5 and smashed Bermuda 31-7 to advance to the next round of the competition where they crushed Guyana 24-0 before shutting out Barbados 21-0.
Mexico, meanwhile, defeated Curacao 33-0 and then outscored Barbados 22-19. In the next round, the Mexicans were too powerful for the British Virgin Islands, winning 50-0. They got by Barbados 12-5 to face Jamaica in the finals.
In the playoff for third-place, Barbados defeated Bermuda 17-12 while Guyana blanked the BVI 43-0 in the playoff for fifth place.
