Jamaican motorsport trailblazer Sara Misir is ready to make her mark in the UIM E1 World Championship Series opener this Saturday, January 25, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Representing Team Blue Rising, co-owned by Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli, Sara will go head-to-head with the world’s best in this pioneering all-electric powerboat racing championship. Additional teams are owned by sports and entertainment legends such as LeBron James, Rafael Nadal, Will Smith, Didier Drogba, and the NFL’s Tom Brady, whose team clinched the inaugural championship last November.
The E1 Series, which launched in 2024, is the first-ever electric powerboat championship sanctioned by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), the international governing body of powerboating. Each of the nine teams consists of a male and female pilot who share driving duties, competing in sleek, fully electric boats known as "racebirds," designed for speed across seven iconic legs.
Speaking ahead of her E1 debut, Sara shared her excitement and preparation:
"Training has been going well, and I'm excited to get on the grid and put in some good times to make Jamaica proud. My co-pilot, John Peeters, brings a wealth of experience, which will be invaluable given how quickly conditions on the water can change throughout the day. It's all about maintaining stability, and I'm eager to hit the waters for what I hope will be a great race day."
Sara’s debut in this championship shines a spotlight on Jamaica’s growing presence in global motorsports.
