Jamaican racing sensation Alex Powell has set his sights high for the remainder of the 2025 season, with his ultimate target being championship success in the highly competitive Italian F4 series.
After a solid start to his campaign in the F4 Middle East Championship—where he recently secured two victories in Round 3 at the Dubai Autodrome—the Mercedes Junior driver, representing R-ace GP, is eager to build on that momentum as he prepares for the next challenge at Yas Marina Circuit this weekend.
Currently third on the Middle East Championship standings, Powell, 17, acknowledged that clinching the title will be a tough task but remains focused on maximizing his performances in each race.
The American-born driver currently sits on 155 points, behind teammate Emanuele Olivieri (263 points) and Kean Nakamura-Berta (198 points).
“I'm a bit far now in the championship to win. It's going to be quite far-fetched, to be honest with you, but, you know, I'm still looking to do the best that I can every race weekend. I think that's the biggest thing—maximizing my performance, and then by the time the end of the championship comes, we'll kind of see where we are,” he told SportsMax.Tv from his base in Dubai.
While the Middle East Championship serves as valuable preparation, Powell has his eyes firmly set on the Italian F4 Championship, which kicks off in May. It is there that he hopes to make his biggest mark this year, having already tasted success at Monza last season.
“Our main goal is the Italian Championship that starts in May,” Powell explained.
“But here [in the UAE], we use it as training, and this has really been a big help for us—to really guide us in which direction we need to work. Fortunately, we did a good job over the postseason tests in December, so we've been able to start strong this year,” he added.
As a driver, Powell has embraced a greater leadership role within the R-ace GP team, a shift that has added a new layer of responsibility to his development. He pointed out that the lessons learned from last season have fuelled his determination to make this season a breakthrough year in his rising motorsport career.
“It's a very different position that I'm in this year compared to last year. I have to be the one that's helping the team move in the right direction, whereas last year, it was a very different dynamic,” he said.
“A lot of the responsibility is on me this year, and I realize that. So, for me, my biggest goal is to guide the team in the right direction and make sure we're working in the right way. So far we've been able to do that in terms of putting the team in a competitive place, and it's now on me to fully execute it,” Powell shared.
With a successful weekend in Dubai behind him and two rounds remaining in the UAE Championship, Powell is eager to maintain his upward trajectory, knowing that consistency will be key to his championship aspirations.
“For sure, the end goal is to win championships this year—both the F4 UAE Championship and the Italian F4 Championship. But in order to do that, there needs to be a lot of consistency and strong results. Like I said earlier, winning the UAE Championships will be a bit tough based on current positioning, but I'm ready to give it my all, and I think it's going to be a big year ahead,” he declared.
“I feel like we've done a really good job up until now. The prep for the season has gone really well, and, you know, we just had a successful weekend in Dubai last weekend as well. So hopefully now momentum is swinging back in our favour, and we'll see how we'll be able to execute the last two rounds in the UAE Championship,” Powell ended.
