Ravel Morrison heads a list of four newcomers that have been named in a 24-man Reggae Boyz squad that will be prepared for two matches against Saudi Arabia on November 14 and 17 in Riyad.
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) released the names of the selected players today.
Morrison, a midfielder, finally gets his maiden cap for the Jamaican squad after years of uncertainty over his availability. Team manager Roy Simpson said the player indicated Morrison was the one who reached out to the JFF saying he was now ready to represent Jamaica.
“He indicated to us that he had sorted out his situation. He is consistently playing now and is ready for his international debut.
Gregory Leigh, the nephew of Dr Warren Blake, President of the Jamaica Athletic Administrative Association (JAAA), also gets his maiden call up for Jamaica. Simpson explained that Leigh, who plays for Aberdeen in the Scottish League, visited Jamaica on holiday and fell in love with the country. The JFF engaged him and the consensus was that he had a lot to offer at the left back position for Jamaica.
Forward Norman Campbell of FK Grafic was first invited to the national squad in February this year but the former Harbour View FC player unable to accept the invitation because he was travelling to Europe for a club trial. Simpson said the time is now right for him to become involved with the team.
Preston North End mid-fielder Daniel Johnson, Simpson said, had always expressed an interest in representing the Reggae Boyz.
According to the JFF, the local-based players will be tested for the Covid-19 virus on November 4 and will be sequestered along with some staff members at the UWI/JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence until they depart on November 6.
