On January 7, former Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) General Secretary Marvin Tate tendered his resignation from the association in a scathing letter addressed to President Mark Bennett that included a number of allegations. Now, three weeks later, Tate is withdrawing such letter on the ground he “deeply regrets any offence, distress, or harm that his resignation letter may have caused,” according to a letter sent to KSAFA President Mark Bennett by the law firm Frater, Ennis and Gordon on Tate’s behalf.
The letter goes on say that it was never Tate’s intention to disparage or hurt the reputation of the president or anyone else associated with KSAFA.
The rationale for the original letter was put down to “a moment of heightened emotions,” as stated in the letter by the firm.
“Our client may have expressed sentiments that do not accurately reflect his views. Our client’s intention was solely to bring certain issues to the fore in the hope on fostering positive change within the organization,” it said.
“Mr. Tate now hopes to put this chapter behind him and to part ways with KSAFA amicably. He remains committed to supporting the growth of football in Jamaica and wishes the organization continued success in all its future endeavors,” the letter concluded.
KSAFA issued a release of their own on Tuesday, stating “the President and Council accept the retraction, despite the immense reputational damage caused to the organisation.”
“Over the past 60 years, KSAFA has dedicated itself to nation building through sports, more specifically the game of football and will continue unswervingly on our mission.”
