Cody Gakpo believes it is only a matter of time before the "real Liverpool" start firing again.
Liverpool have endured a difficult season so far and sit ninth in the Premier League – 21 points behind leaders Arsenal.
The Reds have been knocked out of the EFL Cup and face a tricky FA Cup fourth-round tie against Brighton and Hove Albion, who beat them 3-0 in the league two weeks ago, on Sunday.
However, Gakpo, who joined the club this month from PSV, has seen enough from his new team-mates to suggest the good times are not far away.
"My feeling, personally, is everyone in the team has so much quality," he said. "That is what I see in training and in phases in the games.
"It is also a part of football that sometimes things don't work out exactly the way you want them to. We just have to keep improving, working hard, and the quality will come out.
"Then, you're going to see the real Liverpool."
After impressing at the World Cup, Gakpo joined Liverpool from PSV for a reported fee of £37million (€42m).
From the start of last season until he joined the Anfield club, no player had more goal involvements in the Eredivisie than Gakpo's 46 (21 goals, 25 assists). Indeed, no other player in Europe's top 10 leagues tallied at least 20 goals and 20 assists in the same timeframe.
However, after four games – all starts – for Liverpool, Gakpo is yet to score or set up a goal. He has had 12 shots, with just three hitting the target, and only 18 touches in the opposition penalty area.
Gakpo acknowledged a different role in attack has taken some getting used to, but the 23-year-old is determined to make it work.
"It is a little bit different to what I'm used to," he added. "Normally, I have played on the left for almost the past three years. It's something I can improve, playing in the striker role, and I want to show my quality there.
"It's a great position and playing there makes me more complete as a technical player.
"From a football perspective, it's a new environment on the pitch, with new players and a new team. I can tell it's a really great group.
"Every day I am looking forward to working with them, to train hard and to play the games. I am trying to adapt as quickly as possible, to improve every day and in the end show the best version of myself."
Liverpool agree compensation deal for Slot
Liverpool and Feyenoord have reached an agreement in principle over a compensation deal for Arne Slot to become the Reds’ manager next season, according to widespread Dutch media reports.
The Dutchman is reportedly poised to take over from Jurgen Klopp, who announced in January that he would be leaving the club at the end of the campaign.
Slot led Feyenoord to their second Eredivisie title last season after taking over the club in 2021.
It is believed that he topped the list of Liverpool’s favoured candidates due to his attacking playing style and ability to develop players.
Former Liverpool midfielder, Xabi Alonso, who led Bayer Leverkusen to their first Bundesliga title, and Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim were also reported contenders to take over from Klopp.
Slot had already confirmed his interest in managing in the Premier League, both earlier this week and previously when he was linked to Tottenham in 2023.
Brazil legend Marta to retire from international football
Brazil star Marta has announced she will retire from international football at the end of 2024.
The 38-year-old is the all-time highest scorer for Brazil, netting 116 goals in 175 matches for the national team.
She is also the top-scorer in the Women’s World Cup with 17 goals, finishing as a runner-up in 2007 when Brazil lost in the final to Germany.
The forward has won three Copa America Femenina titles and was part of the Brazil team that won silver medals at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics.
Marta could make her sixth appearance for Brazil at this year's Games if she is selected in the squad at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
"If I go to the Olympics, I will enjoy every moment, because, regardless of whether I go to the Olympics or not, this is my last year with the national team," Marta told CNN in an interview on Thursday.
"There will be no more Marta from 2025 in the national team as an athlete.
"I am very calm about this because I see with great optimism this development that we are having in relation to young athletes."

Al Hilal moved 12 points clear of Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr at the top of the Saudi Pro League as Ruben Neves scored in a 3-1 win over Al Fateh on Friday.
